Canon has announced the 7D Mark II, which has become the company’s flagship EOS camera with an APS-C sensor by taking the place of the aging 7D at Photokina 2014.

The most rumored camera of the recent years is finally official. Canon has decided to stop people from speculating by introducing the EOS 7D Mark II with lots of new features that will make photographers forget about the discontinued EOS 7D.

Canon introduces EOS 7D Mark II DSLR with new AF system, image processor, and more

Just like its predecessor, the Canon 7D Mark II introduces a set of new features, which are not available in other EOS cameras. Among the novelties, we can find the autofocus system and the image processor.

According to the company, the 7D Mark II employs a 65-point AF system that consists only of cross-type points, allowing the DSLR to focus very quickly in all shooting conditions.

Moreover, the shooter features a new 150K-pixel RGB+IR 252-zone metering sensor, which is more precise in determining what is happening in front of the camera.

On the other hand, the image sensor appears to have been borrowed from the EOS 70D. The Canon 7D Mark II comes with a 20.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF support.

The latter technology will allow the camera to focus very fast when using the Live View instead of the optical viewfinder.

As usual, the DSLR has a weather-resistant construction that withstands dusty and other adverse environments. Its body is very sturdy, courtesy of magnesium alloy materials.

The shutter is said to have been tested up to 200,000 cycles, which is about 30% longer than 7D’s capacity.
