Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens becomes official with Air Sphere Coating

The Japan-based company has proudly revealed the second-generation of its super-telephoto zoom lens aimed at full frame DSLR cameras and compatible with APS-C-sized DSLRs, too.

As stated above, the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens employs a new internal design with 21 elements split into 16 groups. The formula includes Fluorite and Super Ultra-Low Dispersion elements, which are meant to decrease chromatic aberration.

Furthermore, the optic comes with a new Air Sphere Coating, an anti-reflection coating that reduces flare and ghosting, thus increasing the image quality.

A redesigned weathersealed lens with new image stabilization technology

This is an L-designated lens, meaning that the product is also made out of high-end materials, beside providing superior image quality.

The Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens is weather-resistant, so users can take it out in the wild as it can withstand extreme conditions.

Introduced in 1998, the previous version did not offer a zoom ring. The pull-to-zoom technique is history in the new model, as it comes with a conventional zoom ring that offers smooth, fast zooming.

The image stabilization system has been revamped, too, now offering up to four f-stops of light. Additionally, the lens “knows” when it is mounted on a tripod, so it automatically turns off the IS system in this case.
