Canon is reportedly working on replacements for both the EF 50mm f/1.2L and EF 85mm f/1.2L prime lenses, with the former coming to the market sooner than the latter.

Many rumors regarding Canon lenses are circulating on the interwebs. The following products have already been mentioned within the gossip mill, some saying that they should have been out by now.

Nevertheless, they are getting mentions again and they are the successors to the EF 50mm f/1.2L and EF 85mm f/1.2L primes. The former could be revealed in the near future, while the latter could be introduced at the Photokina 2016 event.

The first to come is the EF 50mm f/1.2L II USM. The second-generation of the 50mm f/1.2 has been rumored for a very long time and it has even been mentioned at times by select photographers.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.2L USM lens replacement is reportedly coming in the near future.

This product needs a replacement as it has a serious focus shifting problem that is affecting photographers. For now, it just happens to go missing from the company’s official website, which sometimes means that a successor is nearing.

Moreover, the suggested price of the optic continues to go down. It used to stand at $1,600 a year ago, then at $1,550 in early 2015, and now it is set at $1,450. However, a $50 rebate has reduced its price down to $1,400 at Amazon.

A decrease in price could be a sign that a product is nearing the end of its life, so it remains to be seen whether this new prime is coming or not. The rumor mill has not given a timeline, but we might see it in late 2015 or early 2016.

Canon EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM lens could be replaced by an f/1.4 version with BR Optics technology.

Its maximum aperture is unknown for the time being. The current generation has an f/1.2 aperture, but the company might even put an f/1.4 diaphragm into it. This has happened before with the aforementioned EF 50mm f/1.2L USM, which has substituted the EF 50mm f/1.0L USM.

Regardless of its aperture, the new model will employ a Blue Spectrum Refractive Optics element. The BR Optics technology has been introduced in the new EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM wide-angle prime and it reduces chromatic aberration.

Amazon is also offering a $50 rebate for the EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM and now its price stands at around $1,950. In the meantime, stay tuned to Camyx for more rumors!
