Canon EOS 1D X successor might feature a global shutter

The rumor mill is claiming that all future high-end Canon EOS 1-series DSLR cameras will come packed with CMOS image sensors with global shutters instead of rolling shutters.

When it comes to DSLR and mirrorless cameras, the CMOS image sensor has won the war against the CCD sensors.

The advantages and disadvantages of both technologies are still subjects of heated debates, but there is one thing that cannot be argued at this point: the advantages of a global shutter over a rolling shutter.

Canon will allegedly put an image sensor with a global shutter into the 1D X successor instead of a rolling shutter, which is more common in cameras with CMOS sensors.

Almost all CMOS sensors employ a rolling shutter, which means that photos (or video frames) are captured by shutters scanning the scene from left to right or from top to bottom.

In addition to this, a different source is claiming that all future EOS 1-series models, including the Canon EOS 1D X successor, will feature image sensors with global shutters.

The idea behind this decision is to increase the frame rate of the cameras. The 1D X shoots up to 12fps, which is regarded as a very fast speed by pro photographers. However, they would definitely welcome even quicker speeds.
