Canon will not announce or release the EOS 7D Mark II in 2013, sources have revealed, as the DSLR camera will be introduced in mid-2014.

The Canon 7D Mark II rumors have intensified since the beginning of 2013. Some sources have been almost sure that the Japanese company will release the camera by the end of this year, in order to replace the aging EOS 7D. However, other people reported exactly the opposite. It appears that the latter category will win this, trusted folks are claiming that there are “zero” chances of seeing the DSLR in 2013.

Canon 7D replacement is rumored to be announced and released sometime in mid-2014 with a 20.2-megapixel sensor and Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology.

Canon to announce EOS 7D Mark II DSLR camera in mid-2014

There is still no reason to replace the 7D with the EOS 7D Mark II. The current model is still selling well and, what is more important, it is practically destroying the Nikon D300S in sales.

Furthermore, the Nikon D400 has not been announced, yet. If the competition is losing and it is in no hurry to replace the D300S, then the EOS maker will see this as an opportunity to improve the 7D Mark II.

With more time at its disposal, the upcoming EOS camera should be flawless at launch, which will occur in the middle of 2014.

Canon 7D Mark II to feature EOS 70D-like 20.2-megapixel sensor and Dual Pixel AF technology

The camera is being tested right now. It appears that previous rumors have been partially wrong about the image sensor, as there will not be any 21 or 24-megapixel versions. As of right now, the EOS 7D Mark II features a 20.2-megapixel sensor with Dual Pixel CMOS AF technology.

This is the same sensor as the one found in the recently-introduced EOS 70D, which is available for pre-order for $1,199 at Amazon and B&H Photo Video.

Canon 7D Mark II specs list also includes built-in GPS, allowing photographers to add geo-tagging data to their photos. Unfortunately, WiFi is not there, yet, but this might change if the company decides that consumers absolutely want it.

New low-end Canon EOS camera coming in the first half of 2014

Earlier this year, it has been reported that the EOS 70D will be Canon’s last DSLR for 2013. Thankfully, things will change next year, when the big megapixel camera is coming.

Additionally, sources are claiming that a brand new and entry-level DSLR will become available sometime in the first part of 2014. More information should be released soon, but the 70D and 7D should meet consumer demands until then.

For the time being, the Canon 7D can be purchased at Amazon for $1,299 and the Nikon D300S costs $1,619.97.
