More Canon medium format rumors have surfaced on the web, hinting that a DSLR with a larger than 35mm sensor will be announced sometime in September, most likely at the Photokina 2014.

Over the years, Canon has been rumored to be working on a camera with a medium format sensor, but nothing has materialized so far. The difference between 2014 and previous years consists of the fact that the rumors have intensified recently and it is widely-known that where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

Recently, a source has claimed that the company is planning to reveal some MF gear, after adding some related questions to its annual questionnaire with its most important users.

A different person, who has been right in the past, has now told PhotographyBay that the manufacturer will announce something associated with a sensor bigger than 35mm in September.

If Canon launches a medium format camera, then it will compete against the new Pentax 645Z among others.

Canon might launch a DSLR camera with a sensor bigger than 35mm at the Photokina 2014

These new Canon medium format rumors have a perfect timing as they are coming right before the Photokina 2014, the world’s biggest digital imaging trade fair.

The company will probably choose to reveal its plans for the future at the event. If this is true, then it could mean that we will not actually get to see the device in action, as it will be more of an announcement of the development of the MF camera.

At the time of writing this article, the Photokina 2014 is roughly one month away, meaning that there is not very much time left until the event, so we will find out more about Canon’s roadmap very soon.

Canon medium format rumors debunked by a separate, trusted source

A different source, who is also very reliable, is reporting that a Canon medium format camera coming in September 2014 is a “longshot at best”.

CanonRumors has received word that the company is definitely researching such device, but the device is not ready, yet. The manufacturer might reveal such technology at Canon Expo 2015, but nothing is happening sooner than that.

Furthermore, even if Canon demos a medium format camera at its own event, it does not necessarily mean that the device will make it to the market.

These are conflicting rumors, which is more proof that industry watchers must take everything that is not official with a grain of salt. We are keeping our options open, so stay tuned for more details!
