Canon SX50 HS replacement is rumored to be announced this spring as the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS and to feature a 100x optical zoom lens.

The Canon PowerShot SX50 HS has been launched sometime in September 2012. The device features a 12.1-megapixel 1/2.3-inch-type image sensor and a 24-1200mm f/3.4-6.5 lens.

The optical zoom on this device hits 50x, which is not a surprising thing considering the fact that its name is SX50. Putting coincidences aside,  it is worth noting that the focal length is expressed in the 35mm equivalent.

As almost two years have passed since the introduction of this camera, the Japanese company is working on a replacement. The device in question is the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS, the rumor mill says.

The camera does not have an exact release date, yet, but its announcement event will definitely take place sometime by the end of the spring.

Replacement for the Canon SX50 HS to feature 100x optical zoom lens, source says

We have already discussed about the Canon SX50 successor and something has changed specs-wise. The bridge camera has been said to feature a 60x optical zoom lens. However, the latest details have revealed that the PowerShot SX60 will come packed with a 100x optical zoom lens.

The 35mm focal length equivalent of the SX60 HS is said to stand between the wide-angle 20mm and super-telephoto 2000mm. This would make the SX60 HS the camera with the most extended focal range in the world.

As for the built-in electronic viewfinder and the image stabilization technology, they will be there and might be joined by a larger, higher-res articulated screen.

Meanwhile, the Canon PowerShot SX50 HS bridge camera is currently available for purchase at Amazon for a price under $400.
