Canon is rumored to be working on an EOS Rebel SL2 DSLR camera which will be introduced sometime during the fall of 2015 with a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor.

The tiniest and lightest DSLR in the world is the Rebel SL1 aka 100D, which was announced in March 2013. This is an entry-level camera which is focused on being as small as possible instead of providing a large amount of features.

Although it is a lower-end device, it has not been replaced, yet. More than two years have passed since its unveiling. Nevertheless, it is better late than never, as the Canon Rebel SL2 is now rumored to become official sometime this fall.

Canon Rebel SL1’s replacement will be called Rebel SL2 and will be released in fall 2015.

Canon Rebel SL2 to be announced and released during fall 2015

The rumor mill says that the Rebel SL1 / 100D is selling well thanks to its dimensions as well as its reduced price. This is just one of the reasons why Canon will replace it and it seems like it will substitute it pretty soon.

The successor will be called Rebel SL2 in the US, while in the rest of the world it may go by the name of EOS 150D. It is also worth noting that the Rebel SL1 is called Kiss X7 in Japan, so its heir could be called Kiss X8 in this market.

Regardless of its name, the DSLR will become official and will be released on the market in fall 2015. Its price details are unknown, but users should not expect a big difference when compared to the launch price of the Rebel SL1 / 100D.

Rebel SL2 / 150D to be smaller and lighter than Rebel SL1 / 100D

The Canon Rebel SL2 specs list has not showed up on the web for the time being. However, photographers should expect to see a slightly distinct design. The camera’s width will not be decreased, but its height and length will surely be smaller.

This DSLR will shed some weight, too, in order to be even lighter than the 407 grams / 14.36 ounces of its predecessor. The total weight of the body is unknown, but it is expected to drop below the 400-gram / 14-ounce threshold.

For now, Canon will keep on using an optical viewfinder, as electronic viewfinders are not deemed good enough. Finally, the image sensor will most likely consist of the 24.2-megapixel APS-C unit added into the new 750D / Rebel T6i and 760D / Rebel T6s cameras.

Until the Rebel SL2 is announced, Amazon is selling the Canon Rebel SL1 with an 18-55mm lens and 15 accessories kit for a price of only $499.
