Carl Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 and 32mm f/1.8 lenses unveiled

Carl Zeiss has announced a couple of new lenses for Sony NEX and Fujifilm X-mount cameras, called Touit, while their prices have been leaked on the web.

Zeiss has first introduced the 12mm f/2.8 and 32mm f/1.8 lenses for  Sony NEX and Fujifilm X-mount shooters at Photokina 2012. A lot of time has passed since September 2012 and a lot of mirrorless camera users have been wondering whether the Germany-based company will still release the products ot not.

Carl Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 lens gets its name from a parrot in Latin America. It will become available for Sony NEX and Fujifilm X-mount cameras soon for a price of $1,250.

Well, the answer is “yes”, as Zeiss has formally announced the “Touit” lenses. The 12mm and 32mm optics have finally received a name and a complete description.

It is a very unusual name, but the German corporation is assuring photographers that there is a reason for that. It appears that we will have to pronounce it “do it” and that it is inspired by a parrot, which is both agile and small.

The agile and small description is said to suit both the Sony NEX and Fujifilm cameras and the pair of lenses. The Touit parrots are roaming around Latina America and Caribbean regions.

Zeiss says that Touit is a perfect name for the lenses, as it also represents diversity and good visibility.

Carl Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 lens will also support APS-C mirrorless cameras from Sony and Fujifilm. It is available for pre-order now for a price of $900.

The company mentioned that the 12mm f/2.8 and 32mm f/1.8 are just the first two lenses in a long series. However, the Germans failed to reveal when a new Touit optic will become available on the market.

When the Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 and 32mm f/1.8 lenses were announced, the manufacturer did not reveal a release date or price information, though “soon” and “not so expensive” words were mentioned last year.

Anyway, retailers in the US and Europe have already started taking pre-orders. UniquePhoto says that the Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 costs $1,250, while the Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 price stands at $900.

Unfortunately, there is no estimated shipping time, just like in the case of Sauter, a popular German retailer, which is selling the 12mm version for €1,099 and the 28mm model for €799 with on ETA.
