The Prize:

The New Tamron SP 70-300mm Di VC USD — Best-in-Class Tele Zoom

Unparalleled optical performance in a fast and steady telephoto zoom

In the pursuit to achieve the most outstanding image resolution in the 70-300mm class, Tamron’s 60th Anniversary lens – the SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005) – uses an advanced optical design that features LD (Low Dispersion) and XLD (Extra Low Dispersion) lens elements that prevent chromatic aberration. As a result, the SP 70-300mm Di VC USD boasts sharper contrast and greater descriptive performance than all others in its class. This is the first Tamron lens to sport USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive), Tamron’s very own ultrasonic auto-focus drive mechanism. This USD mechanism delivers fast focusing, making it a perfect telephoto zoom choice for photographing sports and other fast-moving subjects. The lens also boasts Tamron’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) image stabilization to assist in hand-held photography, not only at long focal length ranges where blurring is common, but also under low-lit conditions, dramatically enhancing photographic freedom. This combination of best in class image resolution, Ultrasonic Silent Drive and Vibration Compensation is a new achievement of Tamron technology, culminating in the production of a premium 70-300mm telephoto zoom lens. Winner of EISA Best Zoom Lens 2010-2011. Available for full-frame and APS-C sensor cameras in Canon, Nikon and Sony mounts (the latter without VC). $50 rebate through 12/31/10. Canon Mount will be available soon.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?I am always renting a lens for those baseball/football images of my son and his team. I hope to expand into that market as soon as I can afford a lens with this kind of zoom. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Again, baseball, sports images mostly, but think it would also come in handy at weddings. What is your favorite focal length to shoot?right now my longest lens is an 85, so I am going with 85!

I would use it for portraits and wedding photography.I love and would use it to photograph people of all ages!Currently its a fight between 50mm and 85mm but i think that will change when the day comes i get a full frame camera.

“¢Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I need this lens because currently I max out at 200mm. I have been wanting one of these for quite some time.”¢What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I’d like to use this lens for young children. I love to shoot them at play and I’ve found you get much more realistic smiles if you can just stand back and observe.”¢What is your favorite focal length to shoot? It really depends on what I’m shooting. I don’t know that I can say that I have a favorite, thats why I need a lens such as this that gives me options.

1-I need this lens because I need a longer focal length to take some sports shots of my kids either competing in Swim Team. I’d also love it for my local water polo league. And I’d love to have a longer focal length so I could take on more weddings.2- Subjects would be athletes competing in sporting events or brides and grooms doing their thing.3-My fave focal length is 100mm. It is the furthest length lens I own, I’d love to get something with more umph!

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I currently only have primes. I’ve found with some nature shots I want to keep a further distance but still zoom in tight. This would definitely help! What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I would probably use this for nature and some portraits. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Right now it’s 30mm.

I NEED this lens to capture more pictures of my kids. I can see using it as they grow to capture sports, dance, etc. I’d love to work more with this kind of zoom. This would be great to capture events. It would allow me to take more photographs in a photojournalistic style. My favorite length right now is 50mm. I know I would love to shoot longer. Thanks for the opportunity.

Why do I need this lens? Who doesn’t need a new lens? I could always use a new lens to open my shooting horizons. I would use it on children, families, and nature. My current favorite lens to shoot with is my nifty 50mm.

I would love to be able to get better shots of my son on the football field. My MIL’s PaS took better pics with it’s digital zoom than my 50mm lol.I could use it for sports, and as a general use lens since my 28-75 was stolen along with my speedlight and old camera body. I have not yet been financially able to replace either. Most common focal length is 50mm because that is my sharpest lens. The 70 range is my favorite FL though.

  22. Stephanie Snyder on October 12, 2010 at 9:32 am

“¢Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? This lens is sharp and versatile for portrait photo shoots, especially children, who love to run around! “¢What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I would love to photograph children and even animals with this lens!”¢What is your favorite focal length to shoot? It depends on the subject! Overall, however, I’m in love with the 80mm range, for that gorgeous compression it gives for portraits!

  23. Amber on October 12, 2010 at 9:33 am

Hi!1. I need this lens because I am currently renting longer lenses to shoot weddings and it’s expensive! My current long lens is the kit lens and it just can’t handle anything less than bright, direct sunlight.2. I will be shooting weddings with this lens, and probably also portraits.3. My favorite focal length is 35mm on my cropped sensor camera. It basically never leaves my camera body day-to-day.Thanks!

I would love, love, love to have this focal range. I have a collection of primes and a 17-55, but nothing with this range. I love shooting at 85mm. This lens would be grat for shooting children, but I’d probably have to hide it from my husband or it would become the official wildlife lens! You have a great blog btw.

  26. Krysha Abbott on October 12, 2010 at 9:36 am

I really do need this lens because my two year old is getting too hard for me to photograph with only my 50mm lens. She is my main subject, and while I love the look of my favorite lens – my 50mm, I need that zoom! I would also love to have the more optimal portrait range (70-100mm) too. Thanks!

  27. Mike Price on October 12, 2010 at 9:36 am

“¢Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? The extra reach of the 300mm lens would be a great help for my primary interest (wildlife photography), the vibration control could be extremely valuable as 99% of the time I am hand holding.”¢What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?Almost entirely wildlife for my own records (birds of prey), some family photos as well.”¢What is your favorite focal length to shoot?50mm is a favourite for family photo’s

I “need” this lens because I am a birder/birdwatcher and currently don’t have ANY lens for my Canon that allows me to take closeups of my feathered friends! I have been patiently waiting for the chance to get at least a 300mm for over 5 years now but don’t have the money.I would LOVE this lens not only for birding and wildlife photography (my passion), but also for portrait photography, which I have been casually studying for almost a year now. I love learning as much as I can about improving my portraits.Right now my favorite focal length would have to be 50mm for portraits, and 55mm or more plus my macro converter for macro wildlife photography! 🙂

  32. Heidi on October 12, 2010 at 9:39 am

I could really use this lens because my 50mm is not working properly & I am using my D90 kit lens until I can purchase the 85mm. (I prefer to shoot portraits at about 85mm)This would be the PERFECT lens in so many ways

This would be awesome! I would love to get a telephoto lens. I’ve got 3 kiddos, and taking pics of them doing stuff (sports, park, etc.) would be great. They wouldn’t look like tiny specks out on the field. Plus I’ve got my first wedding coming up soon, and I was planning to rent this lens… owning it would be great!Subjects: Mostly my kids but I’m also starting some portrait photography for others. My fav focal length: well, I have a kit lens and a nifty fifty. Obvioulsy I go with the 50mm nearly every time.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?Since my switch to DSLR from my old trusty Minolta X700, I have just 1 lens that’s useable. Having a zoom with a great range like this one, would help immensely! What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?At 70-300, I’ll shoot portraits and sports. What is your favorite focal length to shoot?Probably 85

  38. Sabrina on October 12, 2010 at 9:47 am

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?Currently I only have the bare essentials as far as lens go and don’t have anything near this quality. BIG improvement! What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I love taking pictures of my kids wandering in corn fields which is best from far away. Also, my oldest is in baseball now and this would be GREAT!What is your favorite focal length to shoot?I love my 50.

I would love to own this lens because, as of right now, the only lens I own is the 50mm. I would love the ability to zoom in on farther subjects, instead of moving myself closer!I mainly shoot people, and it would be great to be able to give them some room to move and still capture the great moments without being too close to the subject (as with a 50mm, I have to be pretty close)Since buying my full frame, I’ve only experienced the 50mm focal length, but I think that I will adore shooting at 70 or 85, and will absolutely love having the option to go all the way to 300!This is a great contest Jody, thanks for the opportunity! 🙂

  41. chris on October 12, 2010 at 9:50 am

One entry for me:”¢Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I don’t have a long lens. I only have a 50mm and 85mm, so having some reach will help with the kinds of shots I can take (without cropping!).”¢What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?I would be using this when out and about – great for candids of strangers from a distance and using with the kids at the beach.”¢What is your favorite focal length to shoot?Depends on the setting. In outdoors, I like the long length (200-300mm) to get close to action.

  42. Gwen on October 12, 2010 at 9:50 am

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I really would love to get a little farther from my subjects sometimes … and sometimes I want to get a nice close up without invading personal space. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Well, I’ve always wanted to shoot the moon, and my current lenses can’t do it justice. But I also want the ability to capture my children at play without being up close and personal (so I don’t hear their protests that I’m taking their pictures again)What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Right now, it’s probably 30mm (as I just checked the EXIF data for my most recent photos and they all seemed to have that focal length, even though I wasn’t using my 30mm prime lens)

  43. Christina Labrador on October 12, 2010 at 9:50 am

I “need” this lens to help with my wedding and portrait photography becuase I recently actually broke my other lens and Havent had the extra to fix it.I want to do portraiture with this lens I specialize in children and when they are constently moving it would be great to have a longer focal length. at this point my favorite focal length is 58 mm, I am still buliding up my lenses.

  44. Stephanie Romeo on October 12, 2010 at 9:50 am

Why do I need this lens/ how would it help my photography?I need this lens because it’s sharp and has VC. I have yet to buy a lens that has VC with this kind of range. It would help me greatly!!

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?who doesn’t want a lens that can “do it all”? I am always running around after people, life and birdies and need a lens that can keep up.What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I love to capture soul so when I see it I shoot it… that can be people, animals, flowers or even the ocean down the street. Having this lens would greatly benefit my ability to capture so much more! What is your favorite focal length to shoot?I love anything from my macro all the way to my 200 but I guess my favorite is about 50mm…MCP you know I stalk you on FB, Twitter and your Blog already ;)xo

Oh, this is awesome!! Here are my answers:1. I need to win this lense because I cannot afford to buy one!! I am just starting out, and I am donating my time at my church for pictures, as well as doing free photoshoots to get my name out there. I have had a couple paying clients, but I need something to help me get the edge..and I think this will do perfectly. :)2. I love taking pictures of everything, but this lense would help immensly for taking close up shots when I can’t get close up.3. My favorite shots are the close up ones, and having a lense like this will give me the blurry background I am looking for without manually doing it in photoshop.Thank you for doing this contest!!

  50. Amanda on October 12, 2010 at 9:52 am

I need this lens because I have been wanting this zoom lens but do not have the funds to buy it. I mostly shoot children and this lens would be perfect for helping me capture those beautiful moments and sweet personalities. I am not sure what my favorite focal length is but I shoot mostlywith my 85mm so I guess that would be it. I would love to be able to add the longer lengths with this lens. I seem to be able to capture the little things with my children when I am further away and this would help out so much with that. Thanks so much for the chance to win.

  51. Michelle H. on October 12, 2010 at 9:53 am

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?Because I just got a new D700 and don’t have a great zoom lens. This would be amazing. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?I mostly photograph families and children. But I would use this for everyone. What is your favorite focal length to shoot?Well, right now it is 50mm, because my best lens is my 50mm 1.4 But I would love something else.

I need this lens because I would like to capture my husband as he competes in triathlons, and a fast moving person, who is far away is hard to capture. My favorite length is at least 50mm.

  53. Lindsay McClellan on October 12, 2010 at 9:53 am

    1. I need this lens because my only focal range is 17-50mm right now. 2. I have kids in sports now and the 300mm zoom would be great to capture moments of them in action! 3. Right now my favorite focal length is 50mm. I already own a VC tamron lens and know how great they are!

  54. Leslie on October 12, 2010 at 9:53 am

I “need” this lens as it has a larger focal length than my current one. I do a lot of concert photography as well as just at home photography so this lens would be perfect! My favorite focal length to shoot is usually about 85mm.

  55. Heather P on October 12, 2010 at 9:53 am

I “need” this lens because I do not have a great zoom for my lens arsenel yet. I would love the reach that this lens has. For the time being I would mostly be photographing my children and taking it on family vacations. Right now my favorite focal length is my 28mm, but I also love longer focal lengths (like 85mm) to get better compression.

It sure wouldn’t hurt for the senior photographs that I take either.”¢What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I would be shooting race cars as they practice and race, as well as using it for senior portraits.”¢What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 1. I shot portraits of mostly babies, children and families (with a few high school seniors thrown in). My longest focal length right now is my 85mm/1.8. I’d love to get a telezoom to achieve more compression of the background and allow myself to be farther away from my subjects. This would be especially helpful for young toddlers, who often don’t care for having a camera shoved right in their face for a beautiful close-up. :)2. Answered above – babies, children, families, high school seniors.3. When I’ve rented a Canon 70-200/f2.8, I’ve just loved the effects I get, particularly between 135-200. I shoot with a 5D classic so I don’t get the extra focal length effect that a crop sensor delivers. I’d LOVE to see some shots at 300mm!

  73. Andrea on October 12, 2010 at 9:58 am

    1. I just went full-frame and now my longest lens is 70mm, so the extra reach would be very helpful!2. I would use this lens for hiking, wildlife, and shooting my daughter on stage.3. I don’t know if I even have a favorite focal length. I probably shoot at 105mm most often, because I love macro and that’s my macro lens’ focal length.

Let’s see, I NEED this lens because it is super versatile. It would help my business because most of what I shoot is kiddos, and they are constantly on the move. The different focal lengths would help me keep them in focus! I could also use it for weddings, allowing me to be in the back of the church and still capture important details without being intrusive. My fav focal length is 85… thanks for the chance!

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I am in “need” of a lens and this is the one I have picked out. It is exactly what I have been looking for. I currently have been using my kit lens (18mm-55mm) and I feel that my photography can be even better if I have the right tools. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?I enjoy photographing people. Doesn’t matter if it is a family, maternity, the kids, singles, couples, I love it all! What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Right now I am unable to shoot my favorite. I had used a friends 300mm lens a year ago and LOVED it!! I just have not been able to get my own.Thank you for this opportunity.

1)I could benefit from the extra focal length of this lens in my action photography on my crop sensor!2)I would be using this for action and event photography.3)I don’t really have a ‘favorite’ focal length because of the various types of shooting that I do…so, it would depend on whether it’s action or portraiture.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? My longest focal length right now is with my 28-75mm Tamron, and as much as I love it, I could really use a zoom like the 70-300mm to photograph children who take a while to warm up to me. I shoot outdoors, so they can get pretty far away if they want to! :)What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?Children and weddingsWhat is your favorite focal length to shoot?I find myself shooting at around 50-70mm typically.

    * Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?I currently only have up to 200mm and this doesnt seem very sharp. This would help me both with children and weddings as well as my daughter and husbands sports teams. * What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?weddings, children and sports * What is your favorite focal length to shoot?Right now 50 or more, but I think I would love the 300mm

  92. Karen O'Donnell on October 12, 2010 at 10:05 am

Why do I need this lens? Because my longest lens is a Tamron 18 to 200 which I absolutely love but I’m always bemoaning the fact that the lens isn’t long enough to get those really candid shots. I also dabble in street photography and don’t like to get noticed. What would I shoot with this lens? I would use it for kids portrait sessions so that I’m not on top of them, I would also use it for my street shots..and theatrical event photographyWhat is my favorite focal lens length. I love my prime 50mm lens but probably shoot more frequently at 200mm with my Tamron

  93. Lindsay Wright on October 12, 2010 at 10:05 am

I need this lens because it is the lens I have been drooling over for months now. I would be SO SO SO happy to win this! I would use it to photograph weddings, but mostly families and childredn. We all know that kids like to do what they want and being able to get that tight shot w/o being right in their face would be fabulous! Right now I like to shoot at 50mm. It seems to change, but right now I would go with 50 mm. Thanks!

  94. Erika Rebstock on October 12, 2010 at 10:05 am

I need this lens because my longest lens is only 200mm and that just doesn’t get close enough to the sports games my kids participate in. So obviously I will be photographing my kids, soccer, baseball, basketball, football and ballet. My favorite focal length right now is around 200, because that’s all I gots! Oh and I re-posted this on FB.

  95. Crystal Heis on October 12, 2010 at 10:05 am

    1) The longest focal length that I gave for my Canon is only 85mm. Yesterday I had the opportunity to see and hear former President Bill Clinton speak. He was a tiny speck on the back of my camera. When I’ve needed a longer focal length I’ve rented lenses. Having my own would be more convenient.2) I would use this most with weddings and portraits.3) My favorite focal length at the moment is my 50mm 1.8. or 17mm (on my 17 – 85) With out a long lens in my arsenal I’ve adapted to loving more normal and wide angles.

  96. Lessons in Life and Light on October 12, 2010 at 10:06 am

    1. I need this lens because so far, I only have ONE in my collection!2. I love shooting my nephew, my friends, and the dinners my husband and I make together.3. So far, I don’t have a focal length because I’m shooting with my ONLY lens, which is a 50mm. I would sure love to add some variety!

Insane sharp images or video, no matter what the subject is. People, parties, cities, traffic…If I win this lens I’ll be sure to tell everyone where I got it!

As a photography student, I really need this lens to help improve my shots b/c I’m shooting now with the kit lens. Along with any other models for my classes. As with portraits, I’ve learned the most flattering focal length is the longest you can get away with. I would love to own a zoom like this. I have nothing even close to this range as I mostly have primes but could really, really use a good zoom. I shoot mostly children and my primes are great for the close up portrait shots but following them around like I do – I know I miss out on a few things not having a powerful zoom. I’m saving up as I just purchased my upgraded camera body so there’s no bucks for a zoom lens in my budget yet. I shoot with a 50mm f/1.4 on a crop sensor mostly, so I think that’s putting me at more of 70mm+ full frame focal length. I would love a zoom that covered that great 150-200 range and this would lens about perfect for following my little tots with a lot less foot work. 🙂

“Why?”: This lens has amazing reviews and results. I used to think that you ‘had’ to have the Nikkor brand…. I am totally wrong. This particular lens is awesome, I’ve seen the results as I’ve been looking into purchasing one for awhile now.”What would I photograph?”: Up until know, I have been almost exclusively a newborn photographer. In the last few months, I have bursted onto the wedding curcuit and have discovered that my 50mm and 18-105mm just aren’t going to cut it anymore. This last weekend I stood in a huge cathedral church up on the balcony and discovered with dismay that I could not (in any way) zoom in close enough to get the shot I wanted of the wedding party in front of the alter. I really want to get serious in the wedding photography business, and I’m positive that a lens like this is going to be necessary.”Favorite focal length?”: Currently, it has been 50mm- because, like I said, I’ve been doing primarily newborns. I don’t doubt that my favorite would quickly change if I got my hands on this glass!

    – Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?Honestly – I need it b/c I’ve been saving up all summer for the D700 and I’m out of money. I only use my 50 and 85mm at this point and I’m dying to add a great zoom to my bag. As a YOUNG 34 year old – I’m finding my legs aren’t as young as I’d like them to be and their ZOOM factor is fading out. This lens would not only help my body but the ability to capture more with 1 lens vs 2. – What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I photograph children and families and I’m a sucker for long shots but then 2 seconds later close up tight shots. LOOOOOVVVVEE big wide eyes of children!- What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Probably 85mm right now – changes depending on the session.

This lens will make those shots so much better!I think I would mostly use the lens for sports shots.Right now I shoot soccer gamess with my 55-200 mm. I love taking pics with my 50 mm too.

    1) I NEED this lens because in order to afford a new lens, I sold my old camera and all the glass I had. Then my computer crashed and I had to use that money to purchase a new desktop. So frustrating! The only lens I have now is a 50 mm 1.8, which I love, but which isn’t enough to photograph weddings. I’m trying to get my business started, but it’s hard to do when you’re lacking the right equipment :/2) I would use this lens to photograph wedding ceremonies- this lens is perfect for distance and close ups from the back of a church. 3) I had a 55-200 (before I sold it) and I really loved between 80-90mm. It was a perfect distance for capturing the bride and groom plus wedding party. I love that this lens works under low-lit conditions, seeing as most churches prohibit flash during ceremonies.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I need need need this for shooting sports! I am always in gyms with low light conditions so I need a fast lens that will capture all the action from a distance. Most of the venues that I am in do not allow people on the floor so I need a good zoom lens! Also, when shooting baseball and running events I need something that I can use to capture the action across the field. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I am trying to build up my sports portfolio as we speak. I love actions shots! I also would love this for wildlife photography. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Right now it’s 200mm because that’s all the closer I can get with my cheapy zoom lens.

  160. Alicia on October 12, 2010 at 10:21 am

I need this lens bc I don’t own any zooms just primes and short focal length primes at that! I strictly photograph people! Still trying to figure out my fav focal length – but I think it would be closer to 100mm (on my cropped sensor).

    1. I would use this lens for Jr. High and High School football games. It would be sooo cool to be able to take a picture of my 2 year old in the stands then get a great shot of the football players on the field without changing lens. 2. My subjects include a very active 2 year old princess, 2 Jr. High football stars and a High School Color Guard Diva. 3. I love to shot around 70-80 … I like to be closer to my subjects. However during all these sporting events I commonly shoot between 200 – 300.

When I upgraded my camera, all I could afford was the kit lens (eek!). First and foremost thank you so much for this and all the other opportunities that you offer! This lens would help my business tremendously. I photograph portraits (all ages) as well as weddings and unfortunately my camera bag lacks a proper distance lens. I started my business last year and it just sparked and every penny I have made goes back into the business but I find that most of the money goes toward software upgrade, lighting, and marketing, and unfortunately just “Ömake do’ with the three lenses I have. My longest distance lens ( Tamron and my go to lens) is not automatic. That can be tough when shoot a wedding or babies so I have to say I have gotten to be very quick at manual focusing. Another plus when having a longer distance lens is I wouldn’t have to get up in my client’s face all the time, especially when I photograph babies who always seem to rather touch the camera than smile for it. I really do not have a favorite length that I shoot. I find with my go to Tamron that I normally shoot btwn 50 and 105. 105 is the limit of this lens. I get so many great compliments on my landscape style portraits that I feel having the extra distance would really allow me to get a better angle not only on my subject but also the landscape. I also think this lens would greatly improve what I like to call my peeper shots. I know creepy name but when I am at a wedding I love to get away from the action and just like it all happen in front of the lens. Working with what I have I always seem to be too close to the action to get those great unobtrusive shots. And lastly, this lens is GREAT for boken and who doesn’t want that in their portrait! Honestly this lens would help me in so many way it is impossible to list them all !

I need this lens so that I can catch natural pictures of my Children without being “in their face” like I am with my 50mm. I would shoot mainly children and seniors and I love the fact that it’s rated top of it’s class. My children are also at the age where they are entering sports so this will be perfect for future sports pictures as well. My favortie focal length- 50mm right now. Thanks so much MCP!!!!!!!

    1. My largest telephoto lens goes to 200mm, and having a lens that would go from 70 – 300 mm would be IDEAL to leave on the camera for weddings!2. I think this lens would come in handy for a large number of things – from my children’s sports to weddings and such – and to get good shots of them when they’re not looking (because every photographer knows the minute that you pick up a camera, your own kid either runs or gives a goofy smile)3. My favorite focal length is 80 – it’s great for portraiture. And YES, I really want to win!! All of the money I’ve made so far this year from shooting has gone towards our first Disney World trip, so I’ve had no money to get better equipment!

oh my. the possibilities are endless! My favorite lens right now is the 50mm. It takes buttery soft pictures in low light, and since there is no adjusting, it really makes you think about your composition! I photograph a lot of young kiddles and this would be a good lens to “chase” them with and capture their cuteness no matter how far they’ve run from me!

    1. I need this lens for my growing portrait photography business. 2. The subjects I am wanting to shoot are obviously people for portraits but also high school sports which is another area I cover with my photography.3. My favorite focal length especially with this lens would be the max 300mm. This way I can capture to action in my sports photography up close and personal. The 300mm also is a great focal length for portrait photography in that you can fill the image without scaring you subject. I have found that people get a little antsy when you crowd them with a camera in their face.

And then awesome pictures of people!3) Because I don’t have one, naturally, I’ve really been into wide angle photos. Which this isn’t, but still doesn’t mean I wouldn’t love it.

    1. I “need” this lens because the only lens that I have is the kit lens. I was unsure what additional lens to buy.2. The kid’s sporting events and the shy egret across the pond would be my first subjects to shot.3. Because of the kit lens I currently keep my shoting distance short and would like to be able to expand it.

    1. I need this lens because with the variety of different shooting I do 200mm is at times not long enough for me. Having a 300mm lens would definitely give me many advantages.2. I would like to shoot more landscape and nature photography that a 300mm lens would allow me to do. As a lifestyle photographer, having a longer lens would be something I would use on every shoot.3. My favorite focal length to shoot varies, but I prefer the look of zooming in somewhere around 70 to 85mm.

I wan to be able to grown my abilities in all areas – maternity, newborn, children, senior photos. I have an 85 mm now but I would love a lens that would let me expand my focal length.

Why do you need this lens? I am lacking a zoom lens in my bag, currently I have only primes in my bag, with my longest focal length being 85mm. I find that my 85 just doesn’t get me close enough on some shots without disturbing my subject (children, birds, wildlife, etc). I need the versatility of such a wonderful zoom! What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photography with this lens? There are numerous situations I would have loved to have this lens, a recent outing with my photography club to an abandoned farm would have given me wonderful shots of the turkey vultures circling over head or some wonderful candid shots of my fellow photographers joy of finding a long forgotten treasure. There are so many opportunities that this lens would afford me, lifestyle portraits of families/children, mother nature’s wonders and experimental/abstract art pieces, What is your favorite focal length? Currently my favorite focal length is 85mm, being my longest in my collection I enjoy the diversity it allows me.

The focal length and the compression is valuable to me; there are some far-off shots that I’ve not been able to get thus far, and this lens would help me in getting those.I love taking pictures of my brothers playing one-on-one football in the backyard, and also shooting outdoor events (concerts, rowing, more football…)I like shooting in the 50-105mm range.

I’ve decided to follow my dream, once and for all. I’m nervous and scared, but a bit excited too. :)I would shoot more family portraits…with close up of the little kiddies and their sweet faces. And of course the beautiful bride too. I love the crisp images of the 50mm produces, only because that’s all I know….but an 85 would be very much welcomed.

  263. Angie Sandy on October 12, 2010 at 10:58 am

I don’t have a big zoom lens. Last weekend we went up to Estes to view the elk and having larger zoom would have been really handy (picture attached). I would also use it for school events and kids activities. My favorite lens is my 50mm but so much of the time a prime won’t work for kids events etc.

  264. Kimberli Nelson on October 12, 2010 at 10:58 am

I need this lens because my current 70-300mm is so slow and not at all sharp. I bought a lower quality lens thinking I wouldn’t use it for my professional work, but I love being able to stand a ways back from my subject and get a more voyeuristic shot. I love using a lens like this to photograph children and teens, and I also love sports photography and would like to branch into that market once I have the right equipment. Currently, I shoot at 50mm a lot, but again, I’d love to shoot further …

I “need” this lens so that I have a longer focal length. I would photograph my son of course, but I love shooting nature and landscape so it would be great for that as well. I don’t really have a favorite but I tend to shoot mostly around 100-150mm.

  290. Christie M. on October 12, 2010 at 11:06 am

I would love to have this lens, since I currently can zoom to only 105mm. I “need” to get closer, mostly for shooting people from far away. There are so many times when I want to get closer and simply cannot physically get there. Plus, the bokeh would be incredible! While I like the interest of composing a shot for the surroundings, I love, love to get up really close and that 105mm length and really fill the frame with a great expression!

  291. Amy Shert on October 12, 2010 at 11:07 am

I would love to add this lens to my bag! I know Tamron makes a great product and my longest focal length now is 85mm (also shoot with a 24-70). I shoot people professionally, but love landscape/nature and often wish I had a longer lens with me when outside. This would be perfect–especially for wildlife! The sample images you show tells me it would also be great for people. With what is currently in my bag, my favorite shots are with my Canon 24-70 at 70mm. I really love working with zoom lenses, though, and am itching to get a longer lens. I would thrilled to cover 70-300!

“¢ Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I “need” this lens because I have a super-tight budget, but a goosebump-passion for photography. I have three adorable kids ages 3 and under. The 3 and 2 year old love to play and I adore capturing shots of them on the playground as I have the newborn in the front pack (and can’t get too close). The 3 year old just started t-ball and I would love to capture his face as he plays his daddy’s favorite sport. He has a bit of an overbite and its darling to see him focus while playing and have the same overbite that daddy did when he was little. Daddy is in Iraq, but we send him tons of pictures. I’d like him to “feel” a part of candid pictures and watch the kids grow. He was in Iraq when our baby was born. Photos are the only link he has to memories he isn’t here to experience. “¢ What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? For some random reason I would love to photograph candy. Kids eating candy, candy in a fun candy shop. Maybe it’s because of the state fair in town, but I would love to photograph people eating cotton candy or laughing with candy. I’d love to capture my kids playing of course. I would also love to photograph my kids with their grandma’s horse. “¢ What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Close up shots are my absolute favorite. I don’t think I can describe how much I love close up shots! My favorite focal length is anywhere from 100-300mm

    1. I would LOVE to have this lens because I have been really getting in to the business this past year but i am tight on money. i’m going to school to become better at what I do and learing new ways to do it. 2. I shooting alot of variety of things and having to rent a longer lens seems to be one of my biggest hassels. I shoot alot of portrait and durring weddings its really had to get what the client wants and what i’m happy with at the same time. I have also just been getting into wildlife photography because hunting is very big around my area and that is what I would like to Specialize in.3. With the lens I have rented so far the longer the better 🙂

    1) I NEED this lens because my zoom lenses are the kit lenses that came with my camera. It would give me more flexibility and cleaner, sharper shots!2) My main subjects are children. I would love this lens for just about any subject I could shoot!3)Right now, I’m loving my nifty 50 because of the great results I’m getting with it.

  314. Laurie H. on October 12, 2010 at 11:13 am

Why do I need this? Because I love the zoom on it, who wouldn’t! A good zoom can make photos so much easier! Why do I want it? To take photos of our area and of my children. It’s easier to take their photos when I’m not in their face.I usually use about 80mm right now, but it really depends on where we are and what we’re doing.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? So I don’t have to borrow lenses from my dear friend. I could finally capture my grandkids at “play” without interrupting the game. I would finally be able to get the shots I want. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? My favorite subjects are my grandchildren and wildlife. This lens would have been invaluable while I was camping in the Rockies. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? It really depends on the subject and the environment. Thank you for this opportunity to try to win the lens.

1)Why do I “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?I am a nearly 40 year old woman who put her career aside to raise her kids 7 years ago. Although I have had a slight obsession for taking photos my whole life…through the last 7 years, I have aquired an even bigger yearning to be a photographer. I have always photographed for friends but I actually want more than anything to capture peoples memories for a living. The equipment I have now is nothing more than average. I used to have a GREAT lens 70-210, but about a year & half ago…my little gal tugged on the strap a little too hard and down it went…there was no fixing and on a single income family who was on full commission in this economy, there was no buying another one for awhile. I just keep saying, “one day”. There is definitely a difference when using a kit lens vs. a lens like the Tamron is offering and I would be so gracious to win one!”¢What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I have a 7 and 4 year old…enough said. I take a lot of Baseball photos for my son’s team and then hand the photos out at the end of the seasons. I was hoping to kick start my photography business by taking photos for people at Sporting Events, Dance Activities etc…and then offering my services to other families at affordable prices. But until I get the equipment I need to justify “charging $$”, I haven’t moved forward. This lens would definitely allow me the versatility I need to do these types of things. I also would use this lens taking photos of children…”IN ACTION”…not always the sit down posed shots. I love that you don’t have to keep switching the lens on and off to get a great shot. I used my 70-210 for everything and loved it. This lens would be even better!”¢What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Anything ZOOMED and close up so I suppose you’d say 300mm, although I’ve never shot anything more than the 210mm!

  318. Kresta Littleton on October 12, 2010 at 11:15 am

I need this lens because I need a bigger zoom. The one I have only goes to 200mm, so it would be great to have that extra 100!I mostly just photograph my kiddos — ages 7, 5 1/2, and 1 1/2. With kids running around and away from me, a zoom is a must!I have to admit my favorite focal length is 50mm — that’s my favorite lens, and of course, it’s fixed. But I find myself breaking out my zoom a lot too, esp. in bright sunlight or when the kids are out playing.

  319. Amy H on October 12, 2010 at 11:15 am

I need this lens because it would help me to photograph natures shots better. I would use it for nature shots and people. I would say 50mm is my fav right now. Thanks 🙂

I “need” this lens, because I need a good zoom lens. I have the kit lens now which does not seem as crisp and sharp as this. Those pics are great! This would be great for group shots as well as my daughters soccer games and different sports. Focal length right now I shoot at 50 but that’s because my other 2 are kit lenses and not that great so I would LOVE to have the ability shot far to get close.

  323. Debra on October 12, 2010 at 11:16 am

I would love the lens primarily because I think those sample images are gorgeous. I would love to have a lens that could reach places I can’t go. To take candid pictures of my girls, to capture those amazing hidden moments of them growing up! If I could captures crisp clear images like the one shown at 300mm, I have a sneaking suspicion that that would be the length I would treasure the most.

  324. Tami R. on October 12, 2010 at 11:16 am

I “need” this lens because I am a handicapped mom, legally blind to be exact. I can see enough, but not the details of my kids and all the things they do every day. I recently discovered that through photography, I can literally zoom in on life and capture all the details I’ve been missing. Of course my photos are not great. Because I can’t see well, I take tons of shots, hoping to get one or two in focus. But I do this for me, because life is flying by so quickly and if there’s a way to see it, then I’m going to figure it out. I would use this lens to capture my kids and their activities. Right now, I use the longest focal length I have available, which is 200mm. Thanks for a great give away!

I need this because I lack a zoom lens and have been pining over this one!!!I want to photograph children, and love the distance you can get with this focal length yet still get an intimate shot.I enjoy the images I get from both a wide angle and a 200-300mm, I feel you get a sense of the “scene” or environment more with a wide angle, but then getting the soft bokeh of a zoom is to die for, so different yet both so so important to have!

I gave myself a Nikon D90 as a retirement present in June 2010.I would like it to help photograph the baby squirrels that I rehab. My favorite focal length is mixed. I like to get as close as possible to my babies. With this lens it would be 300mm so I could get much closer when I photograph their release.

A lens this versatile, with this range, would be an obvious enhancement to my nature photography. I would also find this lens useful for my concert photography, sometimes you just can’t get as close to the action as you would like. I typically shoot 150-200mm when shooting deer, heron, and other wildlife. I have had a few opportunities to shoot closer however I have lost many shots because I don’t have the 300mm length.(This comment being posted to Facebook, Twitter and to MCP’s blog for 3 entries)

I like to shoot seniors, weddings and sports. I shoot alot of sports to see the happy faces of the kids when I get that shot. I don’t do that for the money just the reward. Why do you “need” this lens?I just rented the canon 70-300mm lens to take on a trip to Houston this weekend for a renaissance festival that we attend each year. This lens would be perfect for it, as well as many other things (sports, portraits, weddings). What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?Mostly portraits and sports/action.What is your favorite focal length to shoot?Right now it is 50mm. I NEED this lens because my current Tamron 70-300mm zoom has taken a beating and I’d love to upgrade it with a new one! I would use it for my sports photography. For sports, my favorite focal length is full on 300mm 🙂 I love to feel like I’m right in there while standing on the sidelines.

It is funny that you are offering this contest because I just broke my zoom 70-300 mm lens when a gust of serious wind blew my tripod over during a shoot on Saturday and the lens took the impact.* Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? Because I just broke mine and this is my go to lens for all solo photo shoots – it just pulls the subject face so well while blurring out the background. I can’t shoot without it!* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Portraits, sports action* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? good question – probably around 100 for most shoots.

“¢Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?Having a Tamron 18-200mm, for about five years, would be a great way to upgrade to a better and more clearer glass to shoot my two boys doing what they do best, play, play, and more play.”¢What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Living in Florida, with all the wildlife and nature around me it would be a great lens to shoot far and close in one lens.”¢What is your favorite focal length to shoot? Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?I love photography because I see so many things I would otherwise miss. This zoom lens would bring into focus those things I am barred (physically or otherwise) from getting close to — in short, it would expand my photographic horizon. * What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I love to photograph random people interacting with their environment — this would enable a whole new field. * What is your favorite focal length to shoot? * Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?-I am a new photographer, been training for a year. Hasn’t been a profitable year but I have had fun. With the outlay for my camera and studio equipment it has left me in want of lenses. I might have done things a little backwards there but it was Winter at the time. Shortly after investing in my new business I also found out what we thought couldn’t happen, happened. I’m pregnant. Due any moment! Winning this lens would be a dream. Especially since my husband wants to transition into photography with me due to the economy and his business.* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?-Family, Wedding portrait photography. Would love it for photographing children in all their unpredictable splendor.* What is your favorite focal length to shoot?-So far 135mm is the max I have been able to shoot but I have been drooling over the results from lenses in the 200mm range and the 300mm shot shown above is stunning. Please Please Please consider me. It would mean so much. Plus I only buy MCP Actions. I Love Love Love them!Thank you for this opportunity.

But would love to have more range to work with.

Why do I *need* this lens? Two Reasons: VC & USMI have an older version of this Tamron lens that I obtained in a trade (Canon 75-300). Most of its use comes at the zoo, (we go several times a month) but I have really begun to like it when shooting my 2yr old as he plays outside. It lets me get in close to capture his expressions while staying far enough away to not interfere with his play. The model I have is decent when the light is perfect, but when I combine long reach w/ long shutter speeds while “wide open” in darker situations, I end up with shaky photos. The VC will come to my aide in that battle. The quick USM should help keep my very active two year old in focus as he runs around. The model I have is 10 years old and has a hard time keeping up with him!I have the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 and the 70-300 . The shorter lens has been my favorite because it’s faster and i like to get up close, but I’m beginning to enjoy the way the long one lets me capture my kid at play. Would really like to upgrade my long lens as I’m finding I’m using it more and more.

I “need” this lens because the only lens I currently have is the 18-55mm kit lens that came with my new camera. I bought my camera about a month ago primarily to take pictures of my daughter cheering at football and basketball games, but have had to rely on cropping the photos to “zoom” in on her. Getting those shots would be my first priority, but I’ve begun getting requests from other parents for shots of their kids–sports and portrait shots–and this lens would help tremendously. I like 50mm (since that’s my longest lens I’ve got right now) but I love to play in the 100-200mm range.

  458. Susan on October 12, 2010 at 12:05 pm

    1. I need this lens because currently the only zoom lens I have is an older 100-300 that isn’t cutting it and I do a lot of work with little children where I need to be able to photograph a “moment” that may not be in my immediate vicinity. I have previously owned a Tamron lens and loved it, but had to sell it when I upgraded my camera because it wasn’t compatible :(2. The subjects that I would most photograph with this lens are children.3. My favorite focal length to shoot is somewhere between 85 and 100mm. It gives me the most flexibility in capturing my subjects naturally.

Has an awesome sharpness and get zooming. * What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I would love to have the 50mm but for now I just the the kit to the d40 it would be 55

  460. Julie P on October 12, 2010 at 12:05 pm

    * Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I “need” this lens for the great telephoto range. I currently have a great Nikon lens, but it’s really big and it only goes 80-200mm.* What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I shoot mostly nature and landscape shots…this would be great for zooming in on a sailboat gliding gracefully across the lake just a mile from our house.* What is your favorite focal length to shoot? This is a hard one. I love macro, but I also love landscape shots. I would have to say my favorite length is a range, because nature is never in just the right spot to shoot it…you have to reach it with a telephoto lens sometimes. 🙂

But right now I am only rockin’ two lens: the 50mm and 28mm. I need a solid zoom lens for all of the different situations in a wedding day. * What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?I would use this lens for weddings and events. It allows me to get in tight without crowding everyone! * What is your favorite focal length to shoot?Right now it is 50mm, but that is the only longest lens I have! If I win, I’m sure my fav would be somewhere between 70 and 300!

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?I have a great 35mm prime lens that I use all the time, but my zoom lens is on the fritz. I could really use this zoom lens to help my photography not seem so one dimensional2. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?Definitely people… and mostly children.3. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? When I’m using a zoom, I love to bump it to about 200 so I can get cool, up close pictures. When I’m using a prime, my favorite is my 35 mm.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?I am wanting to take a lens like this to take landscape and portrait photography. With only a 50 mm, I feel limited. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I want to take it on all our traveling adventures to get the perfect shots of my family and the landscape. What is your favorite focal length? Right now I have the 50 and feel so limited. I can’t wait to get my hands on a zoom lens!!!

  474. Marisa on October 12, 2010 at 12:14 pm

I “need” this lens because my rambunctious 2 1/2 year old is getting more aware of my taking her picture, and I want to photograph her without intruding so much on what she’s actually doing. I’d use this lens primarily to photograph my daughter, but it would also come in handy the next time I go on a whale watching trip in Hawaii (which I LOVE to do!). My favorite focal length to shoot right now is 50 mm.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? Having this lens will help me take the step into wedding photography. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I would probably use it on my backup camera for weddings, children and pets. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? 50mm or 85mm.

Why do I need this lens? My 70-200mm is great, but it just doesn’t get in close enough all the time. Most of my subjects are people (actors, singers, kids), but now and then I get to do some fun nature shots as well.My favorite focal length is probably 50mm, mostly because I generally like to get in close to my subject. However, I also like the surreptitious shots I can get with the 200, especially with kids.

*Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?~I NEED this lens, because I am a stay at home mom of three who doesn’t have a lot of extra funds to be purchasing lenses that would help me with my passion of Photography. It would help my photography, by enabling me to get those extra special moments of family/friends and perhaps get into Photography as a side business. * What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?~I would be photographing my children, my friends children, my children(s) friends and family get togethers with this lens. * What is your favorite focal length to shoot?~My favorite focal length would have to be 85 :)! Thanks for this chance to win this beauty,Catherinecatlevy@eastlink.ca

I’m just starting out, and I would LOVE to win! I need it b/c I really enjoy and do lots of sports photography – what a great lens this would be for that! It would also help me when I shoot weddings. Right now, my favorite lens is my fixed 50mm. 🙂

  481. Malissa on October 12, 2010 at 12:17 pm

    * Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?I would strongly like to have this lens not only so I can photograph my children playing baseball, football and basketball but also to take better action pictures of a inner city baseball little league my husband and I help out with every year. Its a nice drive, but worth it to be a help to others-especially children. Pictures are memories and these are priceless to the parents and children who would not have them otherwise. I love taking worship pictures in churches and baptisms…the more distance the better. * What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? My children, sports, weddings, church services and nature. * What is your favorite focal length to shoot?Hmmmm, I would have to say 200, but 300 would be GREAT!

I need this lens because the longest lens in my bag is a 100 mm macro! The lack of anything longer really limits what I can shoot. I’m comfortable with my portraiture photography skills but have been wanting to try my hand at sports and some wildlife photography – I live in a really beautiful area – but the 100mm macro is just too short for either, especially on my full frame camera. I have a life long love affair with my 50 mm 1.4, it rarely leaves my camera.

This lens would be great for shooting any kind of portraits but I would particularly like to have it for shooting seniors. I have lenses to cover almost all ranges except those above 85mm and I feel like I “need” a lens like this that can cover a lot of ground for me.As I said before, I think this lens would be amazing for Senior portraits as well as weddings. It allows you to be far away from the action so you can capture those private moments.Usually, my 50mm is on my camera and for a long time I considered myself only a prime shooter. Recently though, a zoom lens has been connected to my camera most of the time and I find that I really enjoy the flexibility of it. I might actually say that my 24-70 is my current fave.

  489. Christina on October 12, 2010 at 12:19 pm

Why do I need this lens? Because I need a telephoto lens as it would build more variety into my collection. What type of subjects? God is in the details. I love to see the elements up close as opposed to a landscape style picture. I would have to say most anything in nature. What is your favorite focal length. It depends on what I’m shooting, I can say what my favorite would be….300mm!

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?I am in the market for a zoom lens! I currently only have my fabulous 35mm and would like another lens to add to my camera bag! :)What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? I have mostly been doing Senior Portraits and Family Sessions! So fun!!!What is your favorite focal length to shoot?I am not sure yet. I am still pretty new to this! 🙂

I would “need” this b/c I haven’t had the opportunity/money to buy a lens like this yet. I would love the 70-300mm…. to help me learn!I mostly photograph my son and family, but when we go out on special trips or vacations, I usually try to take the camera along only for memories, but also different scenery, etc to practice with.My favorite focal length to shoot so far has been my Cannon 50mm lens.

  495. Kelley Godbold on October 12, 2010 at 12:24 pm

    1) I am just starting out, and currently only have the kit 18-55 mm lens. I would like one with better zoom!2) I shoot mostly my children, and food, for my food blog!3) With my kit lens, I shoot a LOT at 55 mm.

  496. Toni Woodham on October 12, 2010 at 12:24 pm

Great giveaway! I need this lens because it appears to have great zoom capabilities without losing the sharpness that I love in portraits. I would use it for children and family shots. I love the look of the 300mm shots; so sharp! I am a fan on FB and posted on Twitter!

  497. Lyndsay on October 12, 2010 at 12:24 pm

I “need” this lens because I actually had one just like it, but at a wedding that I was in one of the attendants grabbed my camera bag and out tumbled my Tamron 70-300. It broke and so did my heart. I loved this lens!! It’s so fun for outdoors when chasing toddlers around trying to get “that” shot.I’m wanting to shoot outdoor portraits of kids and scenery. I also love to use it for a quick zoom on unexpected wildlife.Indoors I like 28mm, but outdoors, it’s a toss up between 50mm for those I can get close to and up 200-300mm for those shots I want from a distance, but want that yummy bokeh look for.

I need this lens because I don’t have any zoom lenses, and I really would love to be able to shoot great detail from farther away. I have one of my best freind’s weddings coming up and would love to capture some great moments for her and don’t want to have to be right in her face. Also, i love photgraphing my nephews and new baby and find it difficult to get as close to them as I need to.My favorite things to photograph are kids! I love portraits50 mm is my favorite so far

  500. Deidre on October 12, 2010 at 12:27 pm

Right now I can only get up to 200 and with my new love of Sports Photography, that focal length isn’t cutting it! 🙂 Besides the sports pictures I would use this for portraits because my favorite focal length to shoot people is around 70 to 120.

  504. Connie Bensen on October 12, 2010 at 12:28 pm

I need this lens for a sharp focus zoom lens. I am always the team/class photographer for my kids activities, and renting lenses to capture the great moments. Mostly I’m shooting fast moving kids in action. I’ve rented the 28-300 zoom, and the 24-70 the most often. It just depends what I’m shooting.

  505. Brittani Bowling on October 12, 2010 at 12:28 pm

    – I would love to add this lens to my bag because of the ability to capture such sharp images when you just can’t get close enough…ie. sports, wildlife, nature, and because its so versatile and can capture amazing portrait photos as well!- As mentioned above, I could use this lens for shooting all kinds of things…wildlife and nature, landscapes, sports (especially horse showing for those fences at the other end of the ring), and portraits as well!- Either 50mm or 85mm :)Thanks for such a great giveaway!

  506. Nikki Painter on October 12, 2010 at 12:28 pm

I really need this lens! Most all I have now are primes and this would be great for zoom at 300 – especially with the kids playing soccer! My fave lens is the 85 1.8 so far!

  507. Fay Fetick on October 12, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I do not have zoom cability at this point. With the added flexibility of this dynamite lens, my clients would really benefit. What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens? Two ideas come to mind: weddings and families. I can definitely imagine using this lens to capture a family off in the distance at the park. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I have a lot of fun with my 50mm, but I also enjoy creative flexibility.

While I love it, I feel a little stuck only having one focal length. That, and I’d love to be able to zoom in on my subject without having to get waaay up in their face. And just maybe, I can get a close-up of my moms pet peacock! What type of subjects or images are you wanting to photograph with this lens?Portraits!! I love people, and this lens would help me capture moments without intruding upon their personal space. What is your favorite focal length to shoot?Right now… stuck at 50mm.
