Cute photos telling the life story of Darcy the hedgehog

Tokyo-based photographer Shota Tsukamoto is telling the life story of his pet hedgehog, called Darcy, using photography and a pair of iPhones.

A camera is only as good as the person holding it. There are a lot of people who still believe that the decline of digital camera sales do not have anything in common with the emergence of the smartphones.

Nevertheless, the signs and the evidence are out there for everyone to see. Nowadays, smartphones have decent image sensors and they act as the main camera for casual photography for plenty of professionals.

A photographer from Tokyo is using smartphones to perfect his skills, though the camera feels less important when dealing with such a cute subject. In our latest story, the cuteness is provided by a tiny hedgehog called Darcy.

She is exploring the world around her and posing for images that are quickly uploaded to Instagram. Darcy’s life story is told through photos and photographer / partner Shota Tsukamoto has promised that he will make her the most popular hedgehog in the world.

With more than 350,000 followers on Instagram, countless likes and comments, Darcy would definitely be the winner of a real hedgehog popularity contest, as it would be hard for her to compete with Sonic.

Darcy gets her name from The Smashing Pumpkins’ former bassist: D’arcy Wretzky

Shota Tsukamoto is constantly updating the Instagram channel using photos taken with the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5S smartphones. However, users can check out her entire story, dating back from April 2010.

The hedgehog’s name comes from D’arcy Wretzky, who used to be the bassist of The Smashing Pumpkins band. The photographer says that Darcy is an edgy girl, so she is following on her namesake’s footsteps.

Tsukamoto adds that hedgehogs are shy animals, so this is why Darcy is unique: she likes to live her life to the fullest. Still, the most comfortable place in the world is her partner’s hand, where she falls asleep immediately.

Darcy the hedgehog could become the hero of a children’s book in the future

Darcy is enjoying a life full of adventures. She has celebrated Halloween, enjoys gambling and brushing her hair. Recently, she has had a small chat with Santa Claus and has asked him for a nice Christmas present.
