The Direction and Future of MCP Blog ~ The Results {Plus Contest Winners}

Featured Products

Thank you to all of my readers who took the time to vote in the polls and/or comment about what you like and do not like about the blog – and also to let me know about your involvement in social networking. If you did not get a chance to vote, I would still love to hear from you and I will keep the poll open.  I am going to discuss the results 1st and then announce winners of the MCP $50 Gift Certificate and the SnapBrand $449 SnapShot Branding Package.  So scroll down at the end to see if you won.

Here are the results after 2 days of voting for “what things do you enjoy most on MCP Blog?” 549 people responded to this question. The winning response was Freebies (especially free photoshop actions).  So you can be assured I will share more fun free actions for my readers in the future. Photoshop Makeovers was in 2nd place and very close behind.  Photographers expanded on this in the comment section explaining that they love seeing me use MCP Actions in before and afters and telling step by step what I did to achieve that look.  As a result of this feedback, I will be doing more of these. I will start by using some of my own photos, but am happy to work on reader photos as well.  I hope to use this feature (now called Blueprints) to show how to make good photos great and to show how you can make photos have totally different looks based on post processing.  I will occasionally show photos that need HELP too, but want to focus on making things better, not just saving a shot.

The 3rd place answer was Photoshop Quick Tips – and I will be trying to add more of these shorter tips back into the blog.  If you have a photoshop tip you want me to share, please email me too.  Sometimes I feel like I have shared all my tips – but there are always more lurking…  So I will be getting back to this again.

Next up was Guest Bloggers – I did see a few comments that people just want to learn from me. But for the most part, photographers are enjoying learning from a variety of sources.  And I promise I would make you yawn if it were all content from me – I just yawned thinking about it. 🙂

You can read the rest below – but basically from seeing this and the other section of what people want less of, I expect most things to remain the same, but maybe trying to do one Photoshop Makeover Post (Blueprint) per week and trying to add in more photoshop tips when I think of things that work well for that format.

The part that was interesting was what people want less of here. 495 people responded to the question about what they want less of.  Most said they would leave everything as is.  About 8% of people wanted less interviews – yet I cannot say that I have done an actual interview since last summer.  Maybe the bios of the guests are what people are thinking of.  Not too sure.  I will keep guests and try not to do too many interviews this year.

As for sharing photos of my kids, 7% said they may want a little less of that – clearly those who comment felt emotional about this as I got dozens of comments saying not to listen and they they love seeing the occasional vacation shot and my kids to se I am human and to connect with me.  And many said they hoped I did not stop.  I do not plan to stop for 7% – but again – this poll was a way for me to get a pulse on the readers.  If 40% had said less of something, be it kids, guests, PS tutorials or whatever, you can bet I would be taking a hard look at things.  I appreciate all that voted and all that commented.  It really means a lot.
