Sigma Photo Pro 5.5 software update now available for download

Sigma Photo Pro 5.5 is available for download now, with Windows 8 compatibility and support for SD1, SD1 Merrill, DP1 Merrill, DP2 Merrill, and DP3 Merrill cameras.

Sigma has released the Photo Pro 5.5 software update for download. The 5.5 version of the photo-editing tool is available for download for both Mac OS X and Windows users.

The new software comes packed with a monochrome processing mode. However, this tool is available only for cameras with the Foveon X3 image sensor.

The company confirmed that Photo Pro 5.5’s Monochrome Mode will support only RAW images imported from 15x3MP Foveon cameras, like the DP3 Merrill, DP2 Merril, DP1 Merrill, SD1 Merrill, and SD1.

Black and white photography is becoming more popular, said President Mark Amir-Hamzeh. The man in charge of the Sigma Corporation of America added that the Photo Pro 5.5 software will take black and white photo editing to the next level.

Processing monochrome images is said to be very easy, thanks to the combination of the Foveon sensor and the new Monochrome Mode.

Additionally, the Sigma Photo Pro 5.5 software update comes packed with other changes, too. The official changelog said that the interface design has been modified in version 5.5, in order to reduce fringing.

A bug which caused TIFF files not to be saved in their entirety has been fixed as well. The changelog also confirms that color consistency in X3 files is the same as color consistency in JPEG files, when opening these files on Mac computers.

Sigma Photo Pro 5.5 also makes sure that the data from the latest lenses is shown properly on Windows PCs.

Last but not least, the software update ensures that selecting the “Auto” option will set the correct preset values in Color Mode. Once more, this feature is only available for the aforementioned 15x3MP Foveon cameras.

Sigma Photo Pro 5.5 software update is available for download on Mac OS X and Windows PCs. The company said that previous Photo Pro versions need to be uninstalled, in order to make sure that the new installation will complete properly.
