DxO Labs has released the DxO Optics Pro 8.3 software update, in order to add support for GoPro Hero and Samsung NX cameras, as well as some Android and iOS smartphones.

DxO Optics Pro is an established editing tool. However, its popularity is one the rise, following Adobe’s decision to move almost everything into the cloud. Unlike Photoshop CC, Lightroom 5 is a standalone app, but this has not stopped DxO Labs’ software from gaining more traction.

Now that the company has more followers, it appears that it is working harder to ensure that a huge number of devices are supported by its image processing engine. After several minor updates, a bigger one has just been released and it brings support for several shooters.

DxO Optics Pro 8.3 is available for download right now with support for GoPro Hero and Samsung NX-mount cameras, as well as iPhone 4, 4S, and 5, and Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 smartphones.

DxO Labs releases DxO Optics Pro 8.3 update for download

Downloading DxO Optics Pro 8.3 software update will allow GoPro Hero users to edit their footage within the program. For the time being, only the Hero 3 Black, White, and Silver versions are supported, along with the Hero2.

The support list also includes several Samsung NX cameras, such as NX300, NX200 and NX210, NX100, NX20, and NX10 / NX11, and two compacts: the EX-1 and EX-2.

Not just GoPro Hero and Samsung NX cameras, smartphones get some love, too

As for editing your smartphone-captured photos, your will be able to do so if you own a Samsung Galaxy S4 and S3 or Apple’s iPhone 5, 4S, and 4.

It is not a bad start, but it may take a while before other mobile phones will be compatible with this software.

Canon 70D support to be added in the near future

More than 13,000 modules are now supported because 168 new ones have just been added. DxO Labs promises that more are coming soon and they will allow more photographers to correct distortion, vignetting, and other optical flaws.

According to the recent press release, the new Canon 70D will also be supported, along with the Samsung Galaxy NX and Micro Four Thirds cameras from Olympus and Panasonic.

The DxO Optics Pro 8.3 software update can be downloaded right now for Windows and Mac OS X computers.
