The first photo of the Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 lens, which will be announced at Photokina 2014, has been leaked on the web, revealing some details about the optic in the process.

Zeiss confirmed a very long time ago that the next Otus lens would be introduced at Photokina 2014. The Germany-based company has also confirmed that the product will have an 85mm focal length and a maximum aperture of f/1.4.

Such details have come from its official Facebook page and they have been welcomed by the community. However, the manufacturer has not released any new information about the product in recent times. Thankfully, the rumor mill is here to help us and the first photo of the optic has just showed up online.

This is the leaked photo of the Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 lens. The product will be announced officially at Photokina 2014.

Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 lens photo shows up on the web

Zeiss will continue the legacy of the Otus 55mm f/1.4 lens by introducing an 85mm f/1.4 version. These lenses are producing exceptional image quality, but they will be very expensive.

The 55mm model is still retailing for about $4,000 at Amazon and there are no reasons to make us believe that the upcoming telephoto version will be any cheaper.

With the first Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 lens photo now circling around the web, all that is left is for the manufacturer to unveil the product.

It is also worth noting that the Loxia family is official now and that more Zeiss optics are expected to be revealed at Photokina 2014.

Everything we know about the Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 lens

From the leaked photo of the Zeiss Otus 85mm f/1.4 lens we can tell that the product will obviously feature a manual focus ring and a distance scale. Additionally, it seems like the product will sport an 86mm filter thread, which is bigger than the 77mm filter thread of the Otus 55mm f/1.4.

The markings of the lens also confirm that this will be an APO Planar model with T* coating. A “Planar” lens usually means that the optic will have six glass elements split in four groups. Moreover, the APO designation means that the lens comes with special elements that correct chromatic aberrations.

On the other hand, the T* coating means that reflections will be reduced, so that ghosting and flare will not appear in your photos. As usual, we are inviting you to stay close in order to follow the official announcement in real-time!
