Fujifilm 16mm f/1.4 lens is rumored to be the high-speed wide-angle lens found in the company’s official X-mount roadmap for the 2014-2015 period.

Sony and Fujifilm are among the multitude of companies which post their roadmaps on the web. Sony does not give out many details, but Fujifilm chooses to spill the beans early for photographers in order to let them know what to expect in the future.

Among the products that will be released by the end of 2014 or in early 2015, we can find the three already-previewed Fuji weathersealed lenses along with a super telephoto zoom model and a high-speed wide-angle optic.

The focal lengths and apertures of the WR models are official, while the super telephoto zoom lens has been rumored in the past, few words have been spoken about the wide-angle unit. Well, forget about that past because a trusted source has revealed that Fuji will launch an XF 16mm f/1.4 optic this year.

Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4 R is a wide-angle lens with a fast aperture. The company is reportedly launching a model with an identical maximum aperture, but with a wider focal length.

A source familiar with the matter, who has provided accurate details in the past, has revealed that the Fujinon XF 16mm f/1.4 is the company’s upcoming high-speed wide-angle lens.

If this is the real lens, then it will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 24mm when mounted on Fujifilm X-series mirrorless cameras, such as the X-E2, X-T1, and X-Pro1 among others.

Such fast apertures are not commonly found in wide-angle optics, but they can be useful in certain cases, like interior or event photography when there is little light available and a lack of desire (or possibilities) to work with flash guns.

The Fujifilm 16mm f/1.4 lens is set to become official sometime this fall and it would not be a surprise if the Photokina 2014 is its designated launch event.

Fujifilm 120-400mm lens is the super telephoto zoom model, 18-135mm getting faster aperture at 135mm

As for the super telephoto zoom lens, it seems like we are facing an XF 120-400mm model with built-in optical image stabilization. Fuji has patented an 85-300mm f/2.7-3.7 model in recent times, but it seems like the aforementioned version is the most likely candidate for the job.

Meanwhile, the XF 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 R OIS WR lens is rumored to get a faster maximum aperture at its telephoto end. According to an inside source, the optic will sport a maximum aperture of f/4.8 when zoomed in at 135mm.

This is also the reason for its delay as Fujifilm has decided to make it brighter. Still, it is set to be released on the market in June, so stay tuned for more info!
