Fujifilm TCL-X100 tele conversion lens announced for X100 and X100S compact cameras

Fujifilm TCL-X100 is a teleconverter that looks like a lens. It can be directly screwed into the fixed lens of the Fujifilm X100 and Fujifilm X100S cameras.

Both these compacts feature a fixed 23mm f/2 lens. The company has found a way to extend its focal range without very much fuss with the help of this 35mm teleconverter.

This TCL is the perfect solution for portrait photography, as it does not compromise the bright aperture of the X100 and X100S. The lens will retain its maximum aperture of f/2, while extending its 35mm focal range equivalent to 50mm.

Fuji X100 / X100S users now have 35mm focal length equivalents at their disposal: 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm

The Fujifilm TCL-X100 is the second converter for these two compact cameras. Photographers who have chosen to walk around with an X100 or X100S can now benefit from three focal lengths: 28mm, 35mm, and 50mm.

The built-in 23mm lens offers a 35mm equivalent of 35mm, while the new TCL-X100 35mm converter offers a 35mm equivalent of 50mm. As for the 35mm equivalent of 28mm, it is secured by the WCL-X100 wide conversion lens.

The WCL-X100 lens has been announced back in 2012 with a focal length of 19mm. Taking the crop factor into consideration, you will get a focal length of 28mm, which is decent for landscape photography.

Fujifilm could release the TCL-X100 in March for a price around $300

Fujifilm is hinting that the new tele conversion lens will become available in spring 2014. Its price will be set around $300, but these availability details are not final.

The Japanese maker will provide more information soon, so stay tuned. Meanwhile, you can purchase the WCL-X100 wide conversion lens at Amazon for a price a little higher than $300.
