Fujifilm X-A1 without X-Trans sensor coming in late August

Fujifilm X-A1 will be officially announced as an entry-level X-series camera without an X-Trans image sensor in late August.

The Fujifilm X-A1 has been rumored before. It has been believed to be an entry-level shooter with an X-Trans sensor. However, that camera proved to be the recently-launched X-M1, which has dropped the optical viewfinder in order to cut down costs.

Fujifilm X-M1 is an entry-level mirrorless camera. The upcoming X-A1 will be an even lower-end camera, as it will drop the X-Trans sensor and other features, when it becomes official later this summer.

Fujifilm X-A1 to drop even more features than the X-M1

As the Japanese company is aiming for a lower price point, the Fujifilm X-A1 will drop even more features. The first is the X-Trans sensor. Most likely, it will be a 16-megapixel version, but without this popular technology, which has attracted so many good reviews.

Moreover, the device will sport a regular anti-aliasing filter, while the screen will not be tiltable, though it might be touch-based, if the company decides to remove a dial as well.

Fujifilm X-A1 to be sold only at major retailers

This information comes from the same source who has leaked the X-M1 information, prior to the camera’s launch event. It will definitely be a mirrorless shooter with interchangeable lens support, but other details are currently unknown.

It appears that Fujifilm will not be sending any X-A1 units to dedicated digital camera shops. Instead, the device will only become available through major retailers. A list has not been compiled yet, but Amazon, Adorama, and BH should definitely carry the mirrorless camera.

Fujifilm X-A1 announcement date to occur in late August

The Fujifilm X-A1 release date is unknown for the time being. Nevertheless, the company should not delay it for too long, meaning that it could make an appearance in late August. By then, more details, including specs and price, should be leaked.

In the meantime, photographers might prefer the X-Trans-based Fujifilm X-M1, which is available for pre-order at the aforementioned three retailers, such as Amazon, Adorama, and B&H, for a price a little under $700.

Keep in mind that this amount is available for the body-only version, as a 16-50mm lens kit will set you back an extra $100. All of them will be shipped by the end of July, so you should go ahead and pre-order now.
