The replacement of the Fujifilm X100s compact camera will not be called X200, instead the company will go for the Fujifilm X100T designation, according to inside sources.

There has been a fair amount of speculation about the future of Fujifilm’s X-series. The top X-series compact camera is the X100s, which has replaced the X100 at the beginning of 2013.

A lot of gossip talks have been said about a possible replacement, some rumors even suggesting that the upcoming model will sport an organic full frame sensor. It was supposed to be called X200, however, it seems like this is no longer the case.

According to multiple sources familiar with the matter, the successor of the X100s will allegedly retail under the name of Fujifilm X100T instead of X200, thus suggesting that the sensor will remain APS-C-sized.

Fujifilm X100s replacement rumored to be called X100T

For some reason, companies are not usually following a naming scheme that would seem logical to the users. However, device makers have their reasons and once you understand what they are going for, you will no longer care about the name.

This seems to be the case with the Fujifilm X100T, which is rumored to become the heir of the X100s. Either way, there are no new details regarding the release date and price.

Judging by the fact that it sports a “T” in its name, there are some people speculating that the compact camera may be weathersealed, just like the Fuji X-T1 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.

The X100T designation has been confirmed by a couple of individual sources, including one which has provided accurate details in the past. This means that the chances of being right are bigger, although do not place your bets on it for the time being.

Fujifilm X100T specs include 24-megapixel X-Trans APS-C sensor

The specs list of the Fujifilm X100T is said to include a new 24-megapixel X-Trans APS-C image sensor, a tilting screen on the back, and a new fixed lens of unknown focal length and maximum aperture.

The Phase Detection AF area is said to be bigger than the one found in the X100s, while autofocusing will be faster than the one provided by its predecessor.

Additionally, an electronic viewfinder will be added to the back of the camera, so this could mean goodbye to the hybrid (electronic + optical) viewfinder.

As usual, take this with a pinch of salt. Meanwhile, the Fuji X100s is available at Amazon with a 23mm f/2 lens for a price around $1,300.
