Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4 R lens photos leaked ahead of announcement

The Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4 R lens has been leaked on the web, reminding X-series photographers that the product is coming soon.

Earlier in the summer of 2013, Fujifilm has updated its 2013 roadmap, as well as the early 2014 one. Back then, the company has confirmed that multiple lenses will be announced over the following months.

Beside the XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS and the XF 56mm f/1.2 R optics, the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4 R lens has been validated, too. Although the manufacturer has not revealed any detailed specifications, the confirmation still stands and it gives street photographers reasons for joy.

A couple of months after the roadmap update, the rumor mill has managed to get its hands on a couple of images of the upcoming glass. The shots reveal it in a black color with a 62mm filter thread, and EBC coating.

The leaked photos of the prime lens show that the product will feature a manual focus ring in addition to an aperture one.

The aperture will range from f/1.4 to f/16. It is quite likely that it will not go beyond the minimum point spotted on the optic. However, there is an “A” option, which will allow photographers to use the camera + lens kit in full “Auto” mode.

The Fujifilm XF 23mm f/1.4 R lens will become available for X-series mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. The list also includes the X-Pro1, which is featured in one of the leaked shots.

Since it is an APS-C camera, like most of the X-mount shooters, the optic will offer a 35mm equivalent of 34.5mm. The company will probably get rid of decimals and market the lens as a 35mm one, though this minor difference is less important.

Either way, it is seen as a great lens for street photography. Its fast aperture will provide multiple extra f-stops of light when compared to its competition, meaning that users will be able to set a much quicker shutter speed, which is useful when the subjects are moving.
