Future Sony A-mount cameras to pack 5-axis IBIS technology

Sony will allegedly announce two new A-mount cameras in 2015 along with a couple of weathersealed prime lenses, while the replacement for the newly-launched A77II will be introduced sometime in 2016.

The future of the A-mount line-up remains in doubt as Sony is delaying the launch of a new flagship camera, while the amount of new optics is rather low. However, good things will come to those who wait, says an insider.

It is rumored that the Japan-based company has big plans for the next couple of years, as multiple exciting cameras and lenses will be released on the market, including two shooters and two prime lenses in 2015.

Sony A7II is world’s first full frame camera with in-body 5-axis image stabilization. The rumor mill says that the technology will make its way into future Sony A-mount cameras.

Sony was not so kind to A-mount fans in 2014, as the A77II was the only camera launched during the year after a hiatus longer than 12 months. Moreover, photographers have been disappointed to see that the A77II is just a minor improvement over its predecessor, the A77, so it has been deemed as unworthy of an upgrade.

A lot of goodies are coming in 2015, says a source. It appears that the A77II is the last A-mount model with the SteadyShot technology, as future Sony A-mount cameras will employ the 5-axis image stabilization system found in the brand new FE-mount A7II mirrorless camera.

Moreover, the two shooters will come packed with the 79-point Phase Detection AF technology found in the A-mount A77II camera. This is advertised as one of the fastest autofocus systems on the market, so the company will add it to its upcoming cameras, too.

Two weathersealed A-mount prime lenses to become official in 2015

In order to add some more incentives to its A-mount system, Sony will introduce two new weathersealed lenses in 2015. They will be high-quality optics with SuperSonic Motor (SSM) technology that is based on a very silent ultrasonic motor, as opposed to Sony’s cheaper, low-quality Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM).

The focal lengths and apertures of the optics are unknown for the time being, but they should be revealed in the neighboring future, so stay tuned.

Sony A77II replacement will be released sometime in 2016

Once Sony makes its vision clear to photographers, the company will introduce a successor to the A77II in 2016. It appears that it has zero chances of being called A77III, which means that it will represent a major improvement over the current camera.

This model will also employ the next-generation 5-axis image stabilization technology. However, it is too soon to talk about the remainder of its specs list, therefore potential suitors will have to wait a little longer for these details to show up on the web.
