More photos and specifications of the GoPro Hero4 have been leaked on the web ahead of its official launch event, which could take place on October 8.

The rumor mill has previously leaked some information about the replacements for the GoPro Hero3+ cameras. The devices were supposed to be unveiled this summer or at Photokina 2014. However, both these deadlines have been missed, leaving more room for speculation.

Almost everything there is to known about the so-called GoPro Hero4 has been revealed by PetaPixel, including photos, specs, and other marketing details, which are said to become official in early October.

More GoPro Hero4 photos and specifications have appeared on the web

GoPro will release two Hero4 versions: Black and Silver. The situation is similar to its predecessor, which is currently available in these two versions. The higher-end model is the Black one, while the lower-end one is called Silver.

The most important additions to the Hero line-up consist of support for 4K video recording at 30fps and built-in touchscreen. Both units will offer a touch-based display, but only the Black model will record 4K videos at 30fps as the Silver version only supports 4K at 15fps.

The new models appear to have similar dimensions to its predecessors, therefore users should not be surprised if the older accessories, cases, and mounts are compatible with the upcoming Hero4 Black and Silver units.

Both editions will come with integrated WiFi and Bluetooth as well as a waterproof rating of 40 meters / 131 feet. In addition, the lens will support Ultra-Wide, Medium, and Narrow field-of-view options.

GoPro Hero4 Black Edition to capture 4K videos at 30fps

The GoPro Hero4 Black Edition will be marketed as “the most advanced GoPro ever”. It will come packed with a processor that is two times more powerful than the one in Hero3+ and with an image sensor that offers enhanced image quality.

Beside 4K at 30fps, the Hero4 Black will also support 2.7K videos at 50fps, 1440p videos at 80fps, and full HD / 960p / 720p videos at a maximum frame rate of 120fps. This means that the high-speed 240fps mode has been removed from the Hero line-up.

When it comes to photography, the action camera will be capable of taking photos at a resolution of 12 megapixels with a continuous shooting mode of up to 30fps.

Hero4 cameras could become official on October 8

GoPro Hero4 Silver may not match the video quality of the Black Edition. Nevertheless, it will still be able to capture 4K videos, albeit only at a 15fps frame rate. Other video modes include 2.7K at 30fps, 1440p at 48fps, full HD at 60fps, 960p at 100fps, and 720p at 120fps.

The source has reported that both versions will feature HiLight Tag, a setting that will allow users to select a key moment in a video. Moreover, QuikCapture is a tool that will turn on the camera and start recording at the touch of a button.

The announcement event could take place on October 8, while the release date of the Hero4 series might be scheduled for October 15. Stick with us to find out the latest news regarding this action camera!
