The Hasselblad Stellar camera has been quietly announced by the Swedish company using a dedicated website for the new product.

Hasselblad is continuing its partnership with Sony through the launch of a modified camera. The Stellar has been recently leaked, with sources leaking a lot of photos, as well as a July 26 announcement date.

Sony RX100-based Hasselblad Stellar officially announced

The company has decided to “ruin” these plans by launching a new website for the Hasselblad Stellar, where potential buyers can find out more details about the entire suite of the device.

The new camera will become available in seven versions. An exact release date is unknown, just like price information, but sources have speculated that the Stellar will be released soon for prices between $1,600 and $3,200.

Hasselblad Stellar will be released in seven versions

Even if the price range turns out to be false, the Stellar will become available in the following patterns: Padouk, Olive, Zebra, Mahogany, Walnut, Wenge, and Carbon Fibre.

Padouk has a grip made out of the wood with the same name, which can be found in Africa and Asia. It is supposedly tough and its redness will turn into a brown color over time. Olive wood is “yellowish”, Zebra is the same material used for making several instruments, while Mahogany is very popular among furniture manufacturers.

Walnut wood is pretty common among car, rifle, and shotgun makers, so a lot of people should be familiar with it. Wenge has a dark color and it is said to be used by guitar designers. Last but not least, Carbon Fibre is aimed at high-tech lovers and it should be very lightweight.

Stellar has the same specs as the original RX100

The Hasselblad Stellar specs are identical to those of the Sony RX100. The camera features a 1-inch-type 20.2-megapixel CMOS image sensor, 3-inch LCD screen, focus peaking technology, built-in tiltable flash, and a fixed 28-100mm f/1.8-4.9 lens (35mm equivalent).

If the Stellar does not impress you, then you could save some money by purchasing the Sony RX100 at Amazon for $648 or even the new RX100 II for $748 via the same retailer.
