How to Get That Glossy Polished Magazine Look in Photoshop

The high fashion photography look is very popular right now, and many high school seniors and teens want model like, magazine style images.  MCP’s longstanding Cover Model Photoshop action set (which is just two actions) can help you achieve this silky smooth, polished magazine style look.  The actions allow for maximum control to get just the amount of gloss and glam you want.

For this step-by-step Blueprint, Spanki Mills Photography has contributed this beautiful image.

To start, I ran Urban Cover Model. When prompted, I painted the areas I did not want smoothed and followed directions for the rest of the action.  I grouped the layers and used a low opacity brush to mask back her white pants, as they had gotten too bright.  Then I used the Eye Doctor action – I activated the catchlights layer, iris layer and sharpening layers to bring out detail and light in her eyes.

The look was very easy to get and makes a huge difference.  I left it intense, but you could always adjust the opacity of the cover model layers for a more subtle effect.

Would LOVE to have this action to add to my others, but does it come for PSE?? I only saw CS listed. 🙁

Fab action….but she does look so much prettier and more radiant in the first un-glossy picture.

I must say I usually LOVE your stuff but this isn’t a favorite at all. She looks much more natural and beautiful in the first picture. The second picture looks way too fake and bleached out 🙁 I suppose if “unnatural” is what a client wants, then this is what they should get.

Do you ever run sales on your action sets? Thanks.

Hi Jodi, Love your website.. I am just starting out as a design student and one question i have always not able to figure out is how to make the cover of your magazine glossy? I have all my elements in place but it doesnt look like the glossy ones available on the stands.. I know a lot of it comes from the paper used, but is there any thing on photoshop that will allow me to get that effect as a soft copy too?
