jossops-closed Jessops fall into administration brings Canon and Nikon reactions News and Reviews

Canon disappointed by Jessops situation

According to retailgazette.co.uk, the first to respond was Canon, expressing disappointment about the harsh situation the UK-based photo-retail shop is in. Canon commented:

“Canon is disappointed to hear the news regarding Jessops, having had a strong business relationship with the company for many years and particularly following our efforts to support them during recent difficult trading conditions”.

Nikon aids repairs on its gear bought through Jessops

According to ephotozine.com, Nikon on the other hand issued a statement aiming all of Jessops’ customers that have Nikon gear in repair. The Japanese photographic and optics producer stated that it will undertake all the repairs Jessops were undergoing on Nikon products. They will also repair products under Jessops’ Photo+ extended warranty scheme.

“Nikon UK would like to assure Jessops customers that we are actively working with the administrators and plan to undertake all outstanding repairs as quickly as possible. Nikon UK will be contacting customers directly regarding their repairs, however for any queries please call 0330 123 0928. To help us update you on the status of your repair, we ask customers to have a product serial number to hand. Nikon UK can confirm that we will also be honouring any repairs under Jessops’ Photo + extended warranty scheme.

Nikon UK would like to take the opportunity to remind customers of its FREE product returns service via a local Post Office, simply visit www.nikon.co.uk/repairrequest to register a repair request. Customers should also take advantage of the range of Nikon service benefits, including free technical support and advice via our support centre and online Service and Support section and manufacturer’s one year guarantee with an option to extend for two years. Simply register your Nikon camera online at www.nikon.co.uk/register “.

Rumors state that Jessops’ collapse was accelerated after Canon and Nikon changed some of their terms of credit agreements with Jessops, shortening the length of the payment period. In the meantime, the retail shop’s administrators – PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) – are still searching for a buyer. All 187 stores in the UK shut their doors at the end of trading on Friday, leaving almost 2,000 people jobless.

This simply shows the precarious state of the digital imaging world, as camera and lens sales have dropped dramatically in recent years. Unfortunately, the trend is expected to continue at least in the next couple of years, so we can expect more bad news in the near future.
