Kodak is preparing to release its first Micro Four Thirds camera, called PixPro S-1, in the near future along with the SL10 and SL25 smart lenses.

With Kodak out of bankruptcy thanks to JK Imaging and other parties, the company is aiming to make a comeback on the digital camera market.

JK Imaging has repeatedly announced the Kodak PixPro S-1, a mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor and lens mount.

The problem is that the device has not become available so far and it does not even have a release date. However, the S-1 has been on display at countless imaging events in recent times, where reps have confirmed that it is “coming soon”.

Kodak S-1 release date is not specified, but the Micro Four Thirds camera is said to be coming soon for $499 with a kit zoom lens.

JK Imaging has also been present at a special show in the UK in order to reveal its line-up, which also includes the SL10 and SL25 lens-like cameras that can be attached to smartphones.

The company is claiming that its products are coming on the market in the near future. This includes the Kodak S-1, a camera that has finally showed up on JK Imaging’s website where it is listed as “coming soon”.

The first continent to get it is actually Asia, as Asian photographers are more interested in mirrorless cameras, while Europe and the US will follow the same path at a later date.

JK Imaging will offer two lens kits, one including two zooms

The Kodak PixPro S-1 will be released alongside a 12-45mm f/3.5-5.6 lens, providing a 35mm equivalent of 24-90mm. The price for this kit will revolve around $500.

A secondary kit will consist of two zoom lenses. The first is the aforementioned model, while the other one is the 42.5-160mm f/3.5-5.9 telephoto zoom with a 35mm equivalent of 85-320mm. The dual zoom lens kit will be priced at around $600.

A third optic will become available later in 2014 under the same Kodak brand. It will consist of a 400mm fieldscope with an f/6.7 fixed aperture. This lens will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 800mm and does not have a price, yet.

About the Kodak PixPro S-1

The new Kodak MFT camera features a 16-megapixel sensor with sensor-shift image stabilization technology.

It captures both RAW and JPEG photos as well as full HD videos at 30fps. Its continuous shooting mode will allow photographers to record up to 4fps (or 5fps as this information has been changed recently), which is not the fastest, nor the slowest speed in the digital world.

The PixPro S-1 sports a 3-inch tilting screen on the back, while the built-in WiFi allows users to connect the camera to a mobile device in order to transfer photos wirelessly.
