Mamiya Leaf Credo 50 medium format camera announced

Mamiya Leaf has unveiled a new medium format camera, called Credo 50, which incorporates the same Sony-made 50-megapixel sensor found in the latest Phase One, Hasselblad, and Pentax medium format shooters.

In 2014, we have witnessed an influx of medium format cameras. They have also been the first MF shooters with CMOS-type image sensors, as such devices have usually featured CCD-type sensors.

Mamiya Leaf has just introduced its own take on the Phase One IQ250, Hasselblad H5D-50c, and Pentax 645Z, courtesy of the Credo 50, that employs the same 50MP sensor as its counterparts.

The company has confirmed that the Credo 50 is here to continue the legacy of the “successful Credo line” by providing a high image quality, as well as impressive dynamic range and ISO capabilities.

The Mamiya Leaf Credo 50 comes with an ISO sensitivity range between 100 and 6400, which will allow users to capture amazing photos even in low-light conditions.

Sony’s aforementioned 50-megapixel sensor will provide a 14 f-stop dynamic range, while a new image processor is powering the camera in order to allow it to capture up to 1.2fps at full resolution.

Since the Credo 50 is based on CMOS technology and has a better processor, images in Live View mode will also look significantly better with improved refresh rate and lower noise, says Mamiya Leaf.

Mamiya Leaf Credo 50 supports long exposures of up to 60 minutes

Mamiya Leaf’s new Credo 50 comes packed with a 3.2-inch 1.15-million-dot touchscreen, which can be used for reviewing and editing images.

Long-exposure photographers will enjoy the capabilities of this medium format camera. The company has revealed that the device is capable of taking one hour exposures and that the results will not include any noise. On the other hand, the fastest shutter speed stands at 1/10000th of a second.

This camera will provide high-quality images with rich colors and great tonality. However, it would not mean anything without being able to transfer files instantly, so this is why the Credo 50 comes with USB 3.0 and FireWire 800 ports, while the images will be stored on an UDMA CompactFlash card.

Availability information

The release date of the Mamiya Leaf Credo 50 has been scheduled for late September 2014. The medium format camera will cost $26,995 for the digital back version and $30,995 with a lens kit.

Nevertheless, the company has confirmed that it will soon release Wide-Spectrum version, that ditches the infrared filter in favor of a special glass, which supports near infrared imaging.
