The first month of the year was packed with action. If you missed what happened in January 2015, then here are the most important camera news of the past month!
A major event occurred at the beginning of 2015. The Consumer Electronics Show was the announcement event of multiple digital imaging products, including DSLRs, compacts, and lenses.
Many other products were revealed after CES 2015, while many others are expected to be revealed in February 2015 as part of the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015. Without much further ado, here are the most important camera news and rumors of January 2015!
The most important camera news of CES 2015
Canon announced the PowerShot SX530 HS, SX710 HS, SX610 HS, ELPH 170 IS and ELPH 160 at CES 2015.
Panasonic joined the event with the Lumix SZ10, ZS50, and ZS45 compact cameras.
Nikon stole the show by introducing the D5500 DSLR as well as the AF-S DX Nikkor 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED VR II and AF-S Nikkor 300mm f/4E PF ED VR lenses.
Fujifilm was present, too, in order to introduce its third weathersealed lens: the XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR.
Even more digital cameras have been announced after CES 2015
After CES 2015, Samyang has revealed the exciting 135mm f/2 ED UMC lens along with its cine counterpart: the 135mm T2.2 VDSLR ED UMC.
Nikon has surprisingly unveiled a few compacts, the Coolpix L31 and L32 along with the Coolpix S3700 and S2900.
Fujifilm has made some more announcements. First, it has taken care of its entry-level mirrorless line-up by unveiling the X-A2 camera along with the XC 16-50mm f/2.5-5.6 OIS II and XC 50-230mm f/4.5-6.7 OIS II lenses.
The XQ2 premium compact camera has been announced, too, as well as the S9900W and S9800 bridge cameras. Finally, the XP80 rugged compact camera has been Fuji’s last camera introduced in mid-January.
During the last third of January 2015, Panasonic has revived the GF-series with the GF7 mirrorless camera, while Nikon has confirmed that it has begun servicing the unnatural flare issue of the D750.
January’s rumors hinting that Canon will reveal many new products on February 6
A lot of exciting things have happened within the rumor mill. However, by far the most interesting gossip talks are focused on Canon’s February 6 event.
The company is expected to introduce the 5Ds and 5Ds R big-megapixel DSLRs whose specs have already been leaked.
Canon will also introduce the EOS M3 mirrorless camera and the EOS 750D/ Rebel T6i DSLR during the same event.
The Japan-based manufacturer is expected to complete its product launch event with the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM lens and with a large-sensor superzoom compact camera.
Olympus, Nikon, and Sony rumored to announce new products at CP+ 2015
Olympus has big plans for February 5. The OM-D E-M5II mirrorless camera, the 14-150mm f/4-5.6 II lens, and the TG-860, TG-4, SH-2 compact cameras should become official before CP+ 2015.
Nikon should join the CP+ 2015 event with the D7200 DSLR and the 1 J5 mirrorless camera, as both devices have been registered on the website of a Russian agency.
Sony might reveal a few cameras in the near future. The rumored names are the A7000 E-mount camera, A3100 DSLR-like E-mount mirrorless camera, the A7RII FE-mount camera, and the entry-level A5 FE-mount shooter.
