Nauticam unveils NA-EOSM underwater housing for Canon EOS M

Nauticam has announced an underwater housing for the Canon EOS M mirrorless camera, which will become available in the US by the end of March 2013.

Nauticam is very happy to introduce a new underwater housing, called NA-EOSM, for a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the Canon EOS M. The NA-EOSM is an aluminum underwater housing for a newcomer on the mirrorless camera market.

The Canon EOS M features a magnesium alloy body with an 18-megapixel CMOS image sensor, near-silent autofocus system, DIGIC 5 image processor, 3-inch Clear View II LCD touchscreen, 3.4 frames per second in continuous mode, ISO of up to 25,600, and full HD video recording at 30fps.

Nauticam NA-EOSM underwater housing can take the Canon EOS M to depths of 100 meters

One of the most popular underwater housing manufacturers felt that such a small and powerful camera would be perfect for oceanographers. As a result, the Nauticam NA-EOSM was born, with features found in the company’s previous cutting-edge housings.

The Nauticam NA-EOSM comes packed with a rugged aluminum case, single-lock rotary housing latch, a depth rating of 100 meters, and a patented latching system.

The back of the underwater housing sports an o-ring, which will allow photographers to perform camera maintenance with ease. Additionally, a new camera tray with a self-locking mechanism will ensure that the camera fits properly into the NA-EOSM housing.

NA-EOSM provides controls for all important camera settings, including ISO, shutter speed, and exposure

The manufacturer confirmed that the system comes with standard dual-ports, in order to allow photographers to make use of optional flash guns.

Nauticam added that the housing was designed with “ergonomics” in mind, making the NA-EOSM as light as the mirrorless shooter and very easy to hold. Moreover, the controls are placed using a “logical” system, giving oceanographers the possibility of controlling the camera with only one hand.

The 4-way control pad and wheel are placed on the back of the housing and they provide access to several settings, such as aperture ISO and shutter speed among others. The exposure controls can be found on top of the camera, along with the Movie-mode button.

The Nauticam NA-EOSM underwater housing for the Canon EOS M also provides dedicated controls for the Menu, Playback, and Info buttons.

Optional accessories available for the Nauticam NA-EOSM underwater housing

Nauticam is offering support for two EF-M lenses, including the EF-M 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 and the EF-M 22mm f/2. Moreover, the company is offering a custom lens port, allowing EOS M owners to use the EF-S 60mm f/2.8 EF prime lens underwater.

Whereas the whole housing body is made out of aluminum, the LCD window is coated with a scratch-resistant and anti-reflective material.

The manufacturer provides optional rubberized handles in single or double-handle versions. The so-called Nauticam Flexitray offers mounts for strobe arms, making the camera very easy to handle underwater. However, customers can also opt for a hand-strap instead of the ergonomic hand-grips.

Nauticam’s underwater housing for the Canon EOS M also boasts an optional strobe mounting solution for Inon S-TTL and Sea & Sea DS-TTL strobes.

The NA-EOSM measures 168 x 97 x 126mm, while the weight will be announced in the near future. The Nauticam NA-EOSM release date is scheduled for March 20, 2013, with retail pricing to be revealed within days.
