Canon made a lot of announcements on February 6 in anticipation of the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015.

The Japan-based company has introduced the 5DS and 5DS R high-resolution DSLRs, the 750D and 760D APS-C-sized DSLRs, the EOS M3 mirrorless camera, and the EF 11-24mm f/4L USM wide-angle zoom lens.

Nevertheless, the year has just begun and it appears that the manufacturer has other products in tow for 2015. According to trusted sources, new 50mm and 70-300mm lens are in development and are on their way.

A lot of people are expecting Canon to update its 50mm f/1.4 optic as well as its 50mm f/1.2 version. However, the rumor mill believes that the company has other plans for the time being.

A trusted source says that a new Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens is coming soon to replace the EF 50mm f/1.8 II optic.

The f/1.8 version of a 50mm lens is often referred to as a “nifty fifty” thanks to a few factors: its focal length, its price-quality ratio, its size, and its versatility. A lot of professionals believe that this a lens that should not miss from any photographer’s bag.

The new version is rumored to offer a 49mm filter thread and to employ an STM focus motor as well as to be released soon. More details are unknown at this point. The current version is available at Amazon for $125.

Canon is working on a new EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens, too

Canon is also planning to introduce a telephoto zoom lens. The product in question is said to be the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM lens.

This is a lower-end optic, which is not L-designed and which does not come packed with Diffractive Optics (DO) lens element. The former is usually assigned to high-quality optics, while the latter increases image quality while reducing the size and weight of a lens.

For now, the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM telephoto zoom lens is available for about $650 at Amazon.

Its replacement should be introduced within the next few months, but you have to take the information with a grain of salt and to stay tuned for more details.
