Canon is rumored to be working on a full-frame mirrorless camera, shortly after trusted sources have reported that the company will give more attention to the mirrorless market in 2016.

Canon’s presence on the mirrorless market is not an important one. Its fans are accusing the company that it is there just to be there because there are few products available for the users. Moreover, the EOS M3 and three EF-M-mount lenses have been introduced to the US market recently although they have been around since February (the camera) and for a long time (the lenses) in Europe and Asia.

In late August 2015, some gossips regarding the EOS M system were circling around the web. It has been said that the EOS M4 is coming in 2016 along with a trio of EF-M lenses and that all of them will be launched worldwide at the same time, unlike the previous two generations.

Canon EOS M3 was announced in February 2015 in Europe and Asia, while only being released in the US in recent weeks.

Another source is now stating that the company is developing a mirrorless shooter with a full-frame sensor and that it is coming out sometime in 2016.

Canon full-frame mirrorless camera rumored to be unveiled in 2016

This is not the first time Canon has been rumored to be working on a full-frame mirrorless camera and it certainly will not be the last. For the time being, it appears that the camera is in prototype phase and that it is not out in the hands of photographers.

The project is still in its early stages, but the manufacturer will manage to put it on the market in 2016. The leakster has not mentioned a possible timeframe for the announcement event, but the device is coming next year.

As far as speculation goes, Photokina 2016 takes place next year around mid-September and, being the world’s largest digital imaging event, it is worthy of being the launch pad for the first Canon full-frame mirrorless camera.

There are no leaked specifications. However, the source promises to deliver some information soon. As the shooter is still in development, the specs might change, so do not draw any conclusions about when they are finally out.

Canon already hinted at a new camera system back at Photokina 2014

It is worth noting that Canon’s Masaya Maeda gave some hints into the company’s future at Photokina 2014. The Managing Director and Chief Executive of Image Communication Products Operation has claimed that the company is considering the launch of a new interchangeable lens camera system.

Mr. Maeda said that miniaturization is important these days and that Canon must keep up the pace with its competitors. These words sound like a hint towards a new mirrorless camera system. The manufacturer already has the EF-M-mount for APS-C-sized sensors, so we are most likely looking at a full-frame system.

The new rumors are credible, but we are waiting for more details before placing our bets on a Canon full-frame mirrorless camera. Stay tuned!
