Fujifilm X-E1 and its more expensive sibling, the X-Pro1, will be upgradeable to new firmware versions on July 23. The updates will bring focus peaking and other focusing improvements.

Fujifilm X-E1 and X-Pro1 firmware updates 2.00 and 3.00 changelog

The new Fujifilm X-E1 and X-Pro1 firmware updates will have a version of 2.00 and 3.00, respectively. The first improvement will provide faster autofocus speeds when using the cameras in conjunction with these Fujinon lenses: XF 14mm f/2.8, XF 18mm f/2, XF 35mm f/1.4, XF 60mm f/2.4, and XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4.

The second addition refers to Focus Peak Highlight. This functionality improves manual focusing, which can already be found in the X100S and X20. It will offer better manual focusing, as it shows the subject in a higher contrast, thus giving photographers a glimpse on what they are about to focus.

Magnification will also be easier to access when using manual focusing. Now it can be done using the dial and after pressing the button to activate it, users can turn it and choose values between 3x and 10x.

Fujifilm is not done with focusing enhancements yet. It appears that the algorithm has just been changed to deliver improved focus precision when the subject has a low contrast or when it is dominated by horizontal lines.

Last but not least change refers to the aforementioned XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 optic. The lens’ built-in Optical Image Stabilization technology has been enhanced to cut down blurring when capturing videos, which is a nice addition for videographers using these cameras.
