A few more Sony A7S specs have been leaked on the web ahead of the mirrorless camera’s announcement scheduled to take place on April 6.

During the past few weeks we have been hearing some information about a new Sony camera with a full frame image sensor and support for E-mount lenses.

The rumors have recently intensified as sources familiar with the matter have revealed that a so-called Sony A7S mirrorless interchangeable lens camera will become official at the National Association of Broadcasters Show 2014.

Before the company’s press conference which is set to take place at the Las Vegas, Nevada event on April 6, reliable sources have managed to get their hands on more details about the upcoming 4K video recording camera.

Panasonic GH4 will have a competitor even before it gets released. The Sony A7S is rumored to be announced on April 6 along with a 12-megapixel sensor.

The full frame sensor found on the Sony A7S specs list will be able to capture photos at 12 megapixels, in addition to recording videos at 4K resolution.

Although the megapixel count is somewhat low, there are whispers suggesting that the pixel size will be bigger in order to provide sharper footage at high ISO sensitivity settings.

Furthermore, the image processor will be able to handle more frames per second in continuous shooting mode.

Sony A7S specs list to include XAVC-S codec support

The specifications sheet of the Sony A7S mirrorless camera continues with XAVC-S codec support. This means that it will handle Ultra HD resolutions such as 3840 x 2160 pixels at 30fps and 3840 x 2160 pixels at 24fps, respectively.

The XAVC-S codec is also available in multiple Sony 4K cameras aimed at consumers. One camera that provides support for this codec is the Sony FDR-AX100, which has been announced at the CES 2014 and is available at Amazon for a price under $2,000.

4K fans should better get ready for Panasonic vs Sony show off

Although the new shooter will be able to handle clean 4K output, it will not be able to capture clean 4K footage on conventional SD cards. This means that the A7S can be connected to external recorders, just like its main rival, the Panasonic GH4.

Sony and Panasonic are the only companies which will offer mirrorless cameras with Ultra HD video recording. For the time being, we have not heard any rumors hinting that others firms, such as Olympus and Fujifilm, will join the fight.

Amazon will begin shipping the Panasonic GH4 in late April for a price below $1,700. The availability details of the Sony A7S will become official on April 6, so stick with us to find them out!
