After revealing a couple of zoom lenses today, Nikon is unveiling the AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.8G ED wide-angle prime lens that is both affordable and lightweight.

The third lens to be announced by Nikon today is the AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.8G ED. It is the first prime to be revealed as it follows the footsteps of two zoom optics, such as the AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8E ED VR and the AF-S Nikkor 200-500mm f/5.6E ED VR.

The Japan-based manufacturer has a great selection of prime lenses with a maximum aperture of f/1.8, including the 35mm and 50mm units. The new Nikon 24mm f/1.8G ED lens will be an excellent addition to this line-up thanks to its affordability as well as its reduced dimensions.

Nikon 24mm f/1.8G ED lens becomes official for low-light photography purposes

The new AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.8G ED has been created for photographers who are mostly shooting architecture, street, landscape, and indoor photos. Its wide-angle focal length makes sure that the entire subject will fit into the frame, while its bright aperture will ensure that photos turn out perfectly even in low-light conditions.

Moreover, the bright aperture will allow photographers to capture beautiful portraits with silky bokeh that is pleasant to the eye by separating the subject from the background in a smooth fashion.

The image quality of the new Nikon 24mm f/1.8G ED lens is provided by an internal design consisting of 12 elements divided in nine groups and including two Extra-Low Dispersion and two aspherical elements.

Just like the most of the company’s recent lenses, this one is covered in Nano Crystal Coat to reduce reflections causing ghosting and flare.

AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.8G ED to be released this September

The Nikon 24mm f/1.8G ED lens features a minimum focusing of 23 centimeters and offers support for full-time manual focusing. An internal focusing mechanism is present in the optic therefore its front element remains still when focusing.

The optic has a filter thread measuring 72mm, while its full diameter stands at 78mm. The total length of the lens is 83mm and its weight stands at 355 grams, so this is a compact and lightweight lens.

Weathersealing is not available in the AF-S Nikkor 24mm f/1.8G ED lens, so users will have to put an end to their photo shoots when capturing outdoor images and it starts raining.

This product will become available on the market as of mid-September for a price of $749.95.
