Nikon Coolpix P600 is rumored to be replaced by the Nikon Coolpix P700, a bridge camera with a 35mm equivalent lens of 2000mm at the telephoto end.

The Nikon Coolpix P700 will fall into the bridge category thanks to an impressive lens that will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 24-2000mm.

Such a focal length has never been seen in this type of cameras, but the rumor mill has previously said that the Canon PowerShot SX60 HS will also offer a 2000mm focal length at the telephoto end. However, the SX50 HS replacement has not been announced, yet.

In the meantime, trusted sources are reporting that the maximum aperture of the P700 will stand between f/3.5 and f/8.5, depending on the selected focal length.

The shooter will feature a 1-inch-type image sensor manufactured by Aptina whose resolution remains unknown for now.

This bridge camera is coming in May and will be very heavy

Nikon’s upcoming camera will be powered by the EXPEED 4 image processor found in the company’s newest shooters. On the back, users will find a 3.5-inch LCD screen, which can be used for framing the shots, although an electronic viewfinder will probably be present, too.

The Coolpix P700 will be made out of magnesium and its grip will be “big”. As a result, this bridge camera will be very heavy, weighing about 1.3 kilograms / 45.8 ounces.

These are all the specs leaked by the rumor mill, but more should become official before the camera’s official announcement in May 2014.

Its predecessor, the Coolpix P600, is available for purchase at Amazon, Adorama, and B&H PhotoVideo for a price under $450.

Nikon could reveal the Coolpix P8000 during the same event

Beside the P700, Nikon will also announce the P8000. This camera will also feature a 1-inch-type image sensor manufactured by Aptina. However, it will be powered by an EXPEED 3 processor.

The Nikon Coolpix P8000 will have a 3-inch LCD screen on the back and a 24-120mm f/1.8-3 lens. An exact launch date has not been provided, but it should not be surprising if the two devices are unveiled simultaneously.
