Nikon has introduced a replacement for the world’s first Android-powered digital camera. The new Nikon Coolpix S810c is replacing the S800c with an interesting set of new features.

The first company in the world to launch a digital camera running on the Android operating system was Nikon. The Coolpix S800c became official in the summer of 2012 as a compact camera powered by one of the most popular operating systems in the world.

The concept of smart camera has been born, but now the time has come to take it to the next level. Nikon has just announced the Coolpix S810c as a successor for the Coolpix S800c with new and powerful features.

Nikon Coolpix S810c replaces the S800c. The new compact camera is powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

More and more digital cameras come packed with built-in WiFi so that they can be connected to a mobile device. After that, the smartphones and tablets can be used for editing the shots and uploading the photos to social networking sites.

The new Nikon Coolpix S810c is different because it runs on Android. This means that users can install apps and edit or share photos directly from the camera without connecting it to a smartphone.

The compact camera also features built-in GPS, allowing users to geo-tag their photos and never forget the exact location of their photo sessions.

Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean is powering the camera and, although it is not latest version of the OS, it offers plenty of features and tools that any power user would appreciate.

Nikon Coolpix S810c features a 25-300mm f/3.5-6.3 zoom lens.

The camera side of the Nikon Coolpix S810c includes a 16-megapixel BSI-CMOS 1/2.3-inch-type image sensor, a maximum ISO sensitivity of 3200, and a shutter speed range between 1/4000th of a second and 4 seconds.

This shooter comes packed with a 35mm equivalent lens of 25-300mm. The maximum aperture is not constant, instead it stands between f/3.3 and f/6.3, and it is dependable on the selected focal length.

Focusing should not pose a problem in low-light environments, as the device sports built-in AF assist light and flash. Meanwhile, the minimum focusing distance stands at 2 centimeters in Macro mode.

If you are worried about blurry photos, then the good thing is that the S810c features built-in Lens-Shift Vibration Reduction technology in order to stabilize the camera.

On the back of the camera, photographers have access to a 3.7-inch 1,229K-dot LCD touchscreen with Live View support. There is no viewfinder, so this is the thing you will be using for composing the shots.

The display is an upgrade from the previous version in terms of size. The Coolpix S800c used to feature a 3.5-inch touchscreen based on OLED technology.

Nikon’s new camera does not support RAW photos, but it can handle JPEGs. Additionally, its continuous shooting mode stands at 8fps. As for video recording, the S810c records full HD movies at 30fps.

Since this is an Android device, its storage is ensured by a microSD card. However, an internal memory of unknown size will be at users’ disposal, too.
