Nikon D610 camera officially announced to replace D600

Nikon has announced the D610 full frame DSLR camera to replace the D600 and repair a string of problems affecting the users.

Roughly a year has passed since Nikon has introduced the D600. It was supposed to be an affordable full frame camera for the masses. Instead, it has been a major dark spot on the company’s reputation, as the device has been affected by a lot of issues.

D600 users are complaining about dust and oil accumulation on the sensor, while the shutter sometimes refuses to fire. Either way, the recently-rumored D610 is officially here to fix those issues and to add its own minor improvements.

Nikon D610 features a 24.3-megapixel full frame sensor and it is powered by an EXPEED 3 image processor. The DSLR is said to provide excellent image quality in low-light environments, which is helped by a maximum ISO sensitivity of 6,400, expandable up to 25,600 through built-in settings.

The FX format camera sports a 39-point AF system with Scene Recognition support, which is capable of analyzing the scene and properly adjusting focus, white balance, and exposure settings.

Nikon has kept the design of the D600 and the D610 top identical to the one of its predecessor. However, the AF system is new, while a Quiet Shutter mode keeps things silent.

Among the new stuff in the Nikon D610, photographers will find a new automatic white balance algorithm and a faster continuous shooting mode of up to 6 frames per second, up from 5.5fps in its predecessor.

There is a brand new Quiet Continuous Shutter mode, too. Enabling it allows users to keep the camera noises down and still shoot up to 3fps, which could be useful during wedding photography and in other places where you have to be really quiet.

The company promises image quality matched only by the 36.3-megapixel-powered Nikon D800. This probably means that the dust or oil will no longer gather up on the sensor to ruin photographers’ shots.

The Nikon D610 back is also identical to the D600 one. A 3.2-inch LCD screen dominates the back view, while the optical viewfinder will provide a 100% frame coverage.

Other than that, the D610 is pretty much the same as the D600, which was not a bad device at all, except for the manufacturing problems. The new camera also supports two SD memory cards, full HD video recording, built-in HDR and Time Lapse modes, and compatibility with the WU-1b WiFi mobile adapter.

The integrated optical viewfinder provides 100% coverage, while the 3.2-inch 912K-dot LCD screen can be used in Live View mode to frame videos.

The body is weathersealed, meaning that it is resistant to moisture and dust. The construction is said to be as resistant as the one on the D800, while the shutter has been tested for up to 150,000 releases.

Nikon D610 release date has been scheduled for October 2013. The DSLR camera will become available with various lens kits.

Nikon D610’s release date has been set for October 2013. When the camera becomes available later this month, its body-only version will retail for $1,999.95, while the AF-S Nikkor 24-85mm f/3.5-4.5G ED VR lens kit will cost $2,599.95.

The company will also offer a kit consisting of a 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens, 32GB storage card, and a laptop bag for $3,049.95.

The final kit consists of the 24-85mm and 70-300mm lenses, 32GB card, WU-1b WiFi adapter, and a bag for $3,249.95.

Amazon is offering the D610 body-only for $1,996.95, while B&H Photo Video is taking pre-orders at Nikon’s SRP.

Nikon D600 is now available for $1,859.99 at Amazon with stocks emptying rather quickly.
