Nikon has introduced a new compact camera, called S3500, that follows in the footsteps of the S3300, a European best-seller.
After weeks of speculation and the rumor mill being undecided whether Nikon will reveal a new compact camera or the new D7100, the company announced a new camera for the Coolpix S series.
The new compact shooter is said to become the successor of the “best-selling camera across all categories in Europe”, said the Japanese manufacturer.
Nikon S3500 announced with 7x Nikkor wide-angle lens
The Nikon S3500 is introduced as a stylish and attractive camera, giving users plenty of colors to choose from. The company’s latest Coolpix shooter features a 2.7-inch LCD screen, 7x Nikkor wide-angle zoom lens, and HD-ready 720p video recording.
The Japan-based company did not miss this opportunity to fire an arrow in the direction of smartphone manufacturers, saying that the S3500 is the “perfect choice” when shooting quick photos in the town. The new Coolpix S3500 is “more versatile than any smartphone”, added Nikon.
The Nikon S3500 features a 20-megapixel CCD sensor with vibration reduction technology, 7x optical zoom, 35mm equivalent of 26-182mm, f/3.4-5.6 maximum aperture, USB 2.0 support, and Eye-Fi connection.
“Stylish” camera with 18 scene modes
18 scene modes are offered by the S3500, which also gives users the possibility to add in-camera filters to their photos. Nikon says that this new compact camera can handle low-light film-making. It is said to be appropriate for zooming in on landmarks and to take quick photos, without too much hassle.
Among the 18 scene modes, the Coolpix shooter also features Smart Portrait System, a technology which automatically detects faces. Glamour Retouch is also an option, which turns less-flattering photos into perfect pictures.
A retouch menu is available for the users, providing options like Selective Color, which can turn color photos into monochromatic images. The Nikon S3500 does not support RAW shooting, as only JPEG is supported.
Price and availability
The company announced that the Coolpix camera will become available in the UK and select European markets as of February 22nd for a price of £129.99 / €155. Eight colors, including black, blue with lineart, orange, pink, pink with lineart, purple, red, and silver, will be at customers’ disposal.
