The Nokia EOS smartphone with 41-megapixel camera is once again rumored to be announced during a global event on May 14.

Nokia is the smartphone maker which created the handset with the highest-megapixel count for a phone camera. The 808 PureView Symbian-powered handset sported a 41MP image sensor on the back, supplied by the Germany-based Carl Zeiss.

Nokia Lumia 928 has been leaked on several occasions. The Finnish company decided to release an official teaser of the Verizon device, which will feature an 8.7-megapixel camera and a Xenon-LED flash combination.

Nokia continues to bet everything it’s got on Windows Phone

However, the latest versions of Symbian never brought a lot of money to Nokia, while the 808 PureView sales never took off. As the MeeGo operating system has been ignored by consumers, the Finland-based company decided that it was time to switch to Microsoft’s Windows Phone.

The current flagship phone is the Nokia Lumia 920, which comes packed with an 8.7-megapixel sensor with integrated Optical Image Stabilization technology for superior low-light performance and steady videos.

Well, this is not enough and the rumor mill says that Nokia will unveil the EOS Windows Phone 8-powered handset with 41-megapixel camera on May 14. The company has already announced a global event that will take place in London, Helsinki, and New Delhi.

It is also known that the company has invited tech fans to come and see what is next in the Lumia series, therefore it is official that a new product will be unveiled.

Sources suggest that at least three phones will be announced next week. The first is the Nokia Lumia 928, a Lumia 920 version for Verizon, which will feature both Xenon and LED flashes on the back (compared to the dual-LED flash on the 920).

The Lumia 928 has already been teased by Nokia. However, the EOS and Catwalk are nowhere to be seen. Since the event takes place in multiple countries other than the US, it is expected that at least one device is aimed at a global release.

Additionally, Nokia Catwalk will also be revealed. It will be offered exclusively by AT&T as a slimmer version of the Lumia 920. The Windows Phone 8 device will be made out of aluminum and will feature the same sensor as the Lumia 920 and 928.

The third and last device is the sought-after Nokia Lumia EOS, which will try to attract more customers using a 41-megapixel camera monster.

Nokia and Windows Phone fans are surely hoping that the 41MP EOS smartphone will be announced on May 14, but keep in mind that these are just rumors and mobile cameras may not reach a high-megapixel count for quite some time.
