Olympus is rumored to sell the upcoming 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO-series lens for a price of $1,799 in the US and CAD$1,899 in Canada.

At the beginning of 2014, Olympus has shown that a couple of new optics will join the PRO-series. The 7-14mm f/2.8 and the 300mm f/4 should both get proper announcements in the near future, although the company has said that they will not go on sale this year.

The rumor mill begs to differ at least about one of these lenses. A trusted source has recently reported that the zoom unit will be announced soon and that it will be released on the market by the end of the year.

Furthermore, there are more and more reasons to believe that the Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO lens price will stand at $1,799 in the United States.

This is the Olympus 7-14mm f/4 lens for Four Thirds cameras. The f/2.8 PRO version for Micro Four Thirds camera will allegedly be priced at $1,799, the same price tag of the F version.

After revealing that Olympus is preparing the launch of the new PRO lens, the same source has managed to gather information about the pricing details in Canada. It is said that the 7-14mm f/2.8 optic will cost $1,899 Canadian dollars, which means that the previously-mentioned USD$1,799 price tag makes sense.

If the optic is said to cost CAD$1,899, there is still no information about the prices in the European, Australian, and Asian markets among others. Furthermore, an exact release date has not been specified for this product.

Nevertheless, when gossip talks are intensifying, then it means that an announcement is nearing and we will find out the launch details on that occasion.

Newer and faster Micro Four Thirds lens to have the same price tag as older and slower Four Thirds unit

As mentioned the last time we spoke about the Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO lens, it seems like it will share the same price tag with the Four Thirds version of the lens. However, the FT model offers a constant maximum aperture of f/4 throughout the zoom range, whereas the MFT model will provide a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8.

This means that you are getting more light and it should help with indoor shooting or cut down the shutter speed when capturing nighttime photos.

As for the 35mm focal length equivalent, the Micro Four Thirds lens will offer a focal length of 14-28mm, thus remaining in the wide-angle category. More details are coming soon, so stay tuned!
