Olympus E-M1 launch is expected to occur on September 10.

Olympus E-M1 sensor will not employ an anti-aliasing filter

Numerous details about the shooter have appeared online, but this does not mean that there is not room for more. According to people familiar with the matter, the Olympus E-M1’s 16-megapixel image sensor does not feature an anti-aliasing filter.

If Sony followed Nikon’s example and ditched the optical low-pass filter in the RX1R, then Olympus must not stay too far behind. Image sensors are becoming better, therefore they are no longer affected by moiré as much as before.

Still, the technology is not perfect, therefore Olympus must do something to counteract the moiré effects. The answer is called TruePic VII image processor. The company’s latest processing engine reduces moiré and improves video quality among others.

Olympus E-M1 announcement date rumored to be September 10, 2013

Meanwhile, the Olympus E-M1 announcement date has been scheduled for September 10. The new Micro Four Thirds camera will be revealed alongside the new 12-40mm f/2.8 lens, which has been spotted in the same photos as the shooter.

This lens will come packed with the snap focus ring found in the 12mm f/2 lens. Additionally, it will mark the introduction of a new lens lineup called “PRO”.

Photographers will be able to bundle the flagship E-M1 MFT with the 12-40mm lens. However, Olympus will also provide a dual-lens kit, including the 12-40mm and an unknown optic.

Testers also claim that the E-M1 will sport an “Environmental Sensing” technology. This new system will adjust the brightness of the electronic viewfinder to better suit the current scene.

A microphone port will be added, too, allowing lensmen to attach external mics that will record better sounds during filming. However, the shooter will feature only one SD / SDHC / SDXC slot.

Four Thirds compatibility is ensured by a special adapter. The users who have tested the camera along with several lenses claim that the FT units are focusing as fast as the MFT ones.

Stay tuned, as the information will be confirmed or not on September 10.
