The announcement of the alleged Olympus E-M1 camera will take place during the second week of September, sources have revealed.

Earlier this year it was believed that an Olympus E-M5 replacement is in the works. The Japanese manufacturer was quick to dismiss the claims, so the rumor mill started to look deeper into the matter.

Olympus E-M5 might be too expensive for you, but an entry-level E-M1 is rumored to be introduced during September’s second week.

Recently, it has been uncovered that an entry-level OM-D shooter is in development and that it is coming this fall. A new set of details has just been leaked and they are saying that the Olympus E-M1 announcement will take place during September’s second week.

An exact date has not been given, while new specs have not managed to make their way on the web. This means that Olympus fans will have to rely on what they know so far.

Olympus E-M1 will borrow some of the OM-D E-M5 traits

The Olympus E-M1 will feature a 16-megapixel image sensor, just like the E-M5, which will lend the design to the new device, too. However, the integrated electronic viewfinder will have a lower resolution than its higher-end sibling.

A two-axis image stabilization technology will be present in the shooter, but no weather sealing will be available, meaning that users should not take the camera out when rain drops are falling from the sky.

New MFT lenses coming, as well as a FT camera

The Olympus E-M1 announcement might include a pair of new lenses, which should make the Micro Four Thirds mount more attractive to a bigger number of photographers.

Another product which should make its way on the market is a Four Thirds shooter, but the information is even scantier in this case.

Before Olympus makes its next moves, Panasonic will hold a launch event for the dream MFT camera. The GX7 is coming sometime in August, but it will be aimed at a different type of consumers than the E-M1.

The Panasonic GX7 will be a high-end shooter with built-in tiltable viewfinder, 18-megapixel sensor, and pop-up flash among others.

Meanwhile, the Olympus E-M5 is available at Amazon and B&H Photo Video for $999. The Panasonic GX1 (body-only) can be purchased solely through Amazon for $259.99.
