The Olympus E-M5 replacement will be announced this September, after all, and will be released along with the high-quality VF-4 external viewfinder.

Olympus has been rumored to reveal a successor for the OM-D E-M5 ever since the beginning of the year. However, the rumor mill has kind of backtracked due to the emergence of an entry-level OM-D shooter that will be called E-M1.

Olympus E-M5 successor is rumored to be announced this fall with a more pronounced grip and under the name of E-M6.

Olympus E-M6 to feature a more pronounced grip than the E-M5

After all, it seems like the Olympus E-M1 will be officially introduced alongside the OM-D E-M6, which will be compatible with the popular VF-4 external viewfinder.

The Olympus E-M6 will be announced during a special event in September and its design will be similar to that of the E-M5. However, its grip will be a lot more pronounced than the one found in the camera it is replacing.

Olympus E-M1, Four Thirds, and high-end compact cameras coming in September, too

For the time being, there are no rumored specs, but sources are not expecting a major overhaul. The company has chosen the path of a refreshed version, as the E-M5 sales are doing pretty well, while other shooters will be launched this fall, as well.

According to people familiar with the matter, Olympus is working on a Four Thirds camera and a high-end compact camera, beside the E-M1 and E-M6.

Panasonic GX7 camera to keep the Micro Four Thirds battle going

Olympus is mostly competing against Panasonic. The battle of the Micro Four Thirds will be intensifying over the following months, when the Lumix GX7 is scheduled to be released, too.

The Panasonic GX7 will feature a built-in tiltable viewfinder, 18-megapixel sensor, and a very fast shutter speed. The device will replace the current GX1, which is available for $259.99 at Amazon.

This represents a massive price reduction, as the MFT camera’s cost at launch has been $699.99. Such discounts are usually paving the way for a replacement, though Panasonic has been helpful in letting out the truth early.

About the Olympus E-M5

The OM-D E-M5 features a 16-megapixel sensor, ISO sensitivity of up to 25,600, TruePic VI processing engine, on-sensor 5-axis image stabilization technology, and a 3-inch tilting OLED touchscreen.

Amazon is selling the Olympus E-M5 for $999, just like B&H Photo Video. There is no price decrease available, but it should go live if the company decides to replace it in the near future.
