Panasonic is rumored to have cancelled the plans to release a Lumix GF6 replacement, called GF7, in order to focus on other projects that would bring in bigger profits.

One of the series that we were used to seeing it renewed in the spring was the Panasonic GF. Usually, it would have been refreshed in early April, however, it seems like the Japanese company has forgotten to  release a new model this year.

The latest version is the Panasonic Lumix GF6, a lightweight and compact mirrorless camera unveiled in April 2013. The patent for its replacement has already been leaked on the web, so there is good chance that some users are waiting anxiously for the Panasonic GF7 to become official.

Nevertheless, the rumor mill is “forced” to reveal some bad news: the Panasonic GF7 has been postponed or cancelled and will not be introduced in 2014.

Panasonic GF7 cancelled to make room for more profitable cameras

Panasonic GF6 could be the last mirrorless camera in the GF series. The launch of a GF7 is rumored to have been cancelled.

The Panasonic GF series has received positive reviews ever since its introduction. The reason for that is pretty straightforward: a mirrorless cameras needs to be compact, lightweight, and cheap.

This is what the Lumix GF has been and Panasonic has been aware of this fact. After introducing the GF6 in April 2013, the Japan-based manufacturer has started working on the Lumix GF7 and has patented its design.

People expecting the Panasonic GF7 to be announced in 2014 should completely abandon their dreams, as the company will not release such model this year.

According to trusted sources, the Japanese maker has turned its attention to “more profitable” series. This suggests that the GF line-up has not brought as much cash as Panasonic would have hoped so the logical thing to do is cancel it altogether.

Panasonic has too many mirrorless camera series and it’s time for at least one of them to go

Although the source says that we should not rule out the possibility of seeing a Panasonic GF7 sometime in 2015, this series may have been postponed indefinitely.

Back in 2013, the company has introduced a new Lumix model called Panasonic GM1. At that time, a lot of experts and industry watchers were blaming the manufacturer for putting out so many mirrorless camera series, the list including G, GH, GF, GX, and GM.

It is easy to understand that this is a cluttered situation and it needs to be cleared one way or another. Moreover, the Panasonic GM1 is the world’s smallest interchangeable lens camera in the world, so a GF model is not necessary anymore.

This would make sense, but you should take it with a pinch of salt because it is based on rumor and speculation. Meanwhile, Amazon is selling the GF6 for a price around $350 and the GM1 for a price around $575, respectively.
