Panasonic is rumored to announce the Lumix DMC-GF7 mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds image sensor sometime next week, meaning that the camera will be here before the start of CP+ 2015.

Panasonic has recently registered the Lumix DMC-GF7 Micro Four Thirds camera at the Radio Research Agency in South Korea. In addition, the Lumix DMC-GF6 mirrorless shooter has had its price reduced down to about $350 at Amazon, leading to speculation about its replacement.

A new source is now reporting that the rumors are true and that they will become official as soon as next week, as the Japanese company will hold a special event to introduce the next-generation GF-series camera.

This is the Panasonic GF6. Its replacement, called the GF7, will be announced next week.

Panasonic GF7 launch event rumored to take place sometime next week

Following the success of the GH and GM series, Panasonic has put on hold its other camera line-ups, such as the GX, GF, and G. However, it appears that at least two of them are making a comeback in 2015.

The Lumix GX8 is allegedly coming soon, albeit there is no proof to attest this fact. However, things are  different when it comes to the GF-series because the GF7, which will replace the GF6, has showed up on the website of South Korea’s RRA.

Now, the rumor mill is claiming that the Panasonic GF7 launch event has been scheduled to take place by the end of next week. The mirrorless camera is most likely coming in the middle of the week, so it would not be a surprise if it becomes official on Wednesday, January 21.

The Japan-based company will market this Micro Four Thirds camera as a compact model, so it has chosen the Lumix G Vario 12-32mm f/3.5-5.6 ASPH Mega OIS pancake lens as its lens kit.

The full specs list and price of the shooter are unknown. However, one thing is certain: the GF7 will not be capable of capturing videos at 4K resolution.

WiFi and NFC will definitely be added into the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF7

Although it will be a new camera, photographers should not expect to see major changes in the GF7 when compared to the GF6.

The GF6 features a 16-megapixel image sensor, 3-inch tilting touchscreen, full HD video recording, and a maximum ISO sensitivity of 25,600. The mirrorless camera will not have a built-in viewfinder, so users will rely exclusively on the touch-based display.

Since the GF6 comes packed with WiFi and NFC, while its replacement has showed up on RRA’s website, the GF7 will definitely feature these connectivity options.

Stay tuned to Camyx for the official Panasonic GF7 launch event!
