Panasonic has unveiled the Lumix DMC-GX7, a mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds mount, that has been the main subject of the rumor mill for quite some time.
The Panasonic GX7 is finally official and it is looking to deliver on its promises. It has been referred to as the “dream camera” by Micro Four Thirds fans and it is easy to see why by taking a look at its specs, design, and price.
Panasonic GX7 officially becomes the “dream camera” for Micro Four Thirds adopters
There was a time when “retro” was considered an outdated style. However, that is no longer the case and the Lumix GX7 comes packed in a magnesium alloy body and a gorgeous design.
Beautiful does not mean anything without functionality, but the GX7 has plenty of both. It features a built-in 2764K-dot electronic viewfinder which can be tilted upwards by 90 degrees.
The integrated EVF provides a 100% field of view and Eye Sensor Autofocus (AF) technology. The latter can be turned off, but it will begin focusing as soon as the user looks into the EVF when it is turned on.
Lumix GX7 is Panasonic’s first interchangeable lens camera with in-body image stabilization
Panasonic GX7 has become the company’s first mirrorless interchangeable lens camera to feature built-in image stabilization technology. Anyway, some photographers may be more eager to test the device’s 1/8000-second maximum shutter speed, matching the Olympus E-P5 one.
The new Lumix shooter will be capable of acquiring focus faster, thanks to Focus Peaking technology, but the image sensor is pretty important, too. The GX7 is packing a brand new 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS sensor and a Venus image processing engine.
These two will work together at capturing more details and upping saturation by up to 10%. A couple of noise reduction technologies have been added into the camera, allowing photographers to capture high-quality photos even at the maximum ISO sensitivity of 25,600, says Panasonic.
Panasonic GX7 boots in 0.5 seconds and stays quiet when silence is required
The Lumix GX7 is a fast and quiet camera. It can be ready to shoot in 0.5 seconds after booting and to cut down its operation noises in Silent Mode. Moreover, a continuous mode is available with 5 frames per second shooting, while an electronic shutter raises this amount to 40fps.
Panasonic’s new device captures full HD videos at 60fps. AF Tracking is supported in both video and in high-speed burst modes. However, in the latter case the fps amount is reduced to merely 4.3.
The aforementioned Silent Mode turns off the mechanical shutter and moves on to the electronic version. The AF assist lamp and the flash are turned off, so that photographers can shoot without disturbing other people.
Backup or easily share content to mobile devices via WiFi or NFC
The camera’s design is completed by a couple of dials, one in the front and another one in the back. Users will be able to easily control the exposure settings manually through the usual P / A / S / M modes.
Social media enthusiasts will be able to share the content with iOS and Android smartphones and tablets through WiFi and NFC. Nevertheless, they can edit the shots within the camera using 22 effects, such as Stop Motion, Panorama, and Time Lapse.
Everything will be easy to control, thanks to a 3-inch 1040K-dot LCD touchscreen, which can be used as a Live View mode.
