Panasonic is rumored to introduce an entry-level mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor and 4K video recording capabilities, with the most likely camera to be replaced being the Lumix GX7.

The early parts of 2015 will be very exciting for photographers and videographers alike, as a myriad of new cameras are expected to become official. An entry-level Panasonic Micro Four Thirds camera will make its way into the big list of upcoming shooters, trusted sources are reporting.

It appears that the Panasonic GX8 is ready to be unveiled and it will be marketed as a low-end camera in order to differentiate this series from the powerful GH line-up, even though it will be capable of recording 4K videos.

Panasonic GX7 is rumored to be replaced by the Panasonic GX8 in February, a Micro Four Thirds camera that will record 4K videos.

Panasonic GX8 to be announced at CP+ 2015 with 4K video recording support

Trusted sources are reporting that the next mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds image sensor from Panasonic will consists of an entry-level model. This device will capture footage at 4K resolution. However, the remainder of the specifications list remains unknown, for the time being.

It is unlikely that the GM-series will get 4K support and the G and GF line-ups have been put on hold and they will not return to the market anytime soon. This means that Micro Four Thirds fans will be able to get their hands on the Panasonic GX8, which will replace the GX7, a MILC announced back in August 2013.

The rumor mill says that the device could be revealed at CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015, which takes place in mid-February in Japan. As a result, it is unlikely that the GX7 replacement will make a cameo at CES 2015 this January.

Entry-level shooter means that the novelties will not be plenty in order to keep costs down

Panasonic has not introduced the GX7 as an entry-level camera. In fact, this device is packing pretty much everything you need from a mirrorless shooter.

It is compact and lightweight, but has enough room for built-in image stabilization, a powerful sensor, tilting electronic viewfinder, tilting touchscreen, WiFi, NFC, Focus Peaking, pop-up flash, manual modes, and a fast, electronic shutter among many others.

This is why it will be very interesting to see which novelties will be added (beside 4K video) and how the company intends to keep the price down in order to market this as an entry-level shooter.

One of the GX7’s problems has been its high price tag of about $1,000, which has forced the camera to step into the GH-series’ territory. Until more details become available, you can buy the Panasonic GX7 at Amazon for under $500.
