Panasonic is rumored to release the Lumix GX7 replacement, called Lumix GX8, sometime in May 2015 as a mirrorless camera that is capable of recording 4K videos.

Up until the Panasonic GH4’s introduction, the Lumix GX7 was advertised as a high-end mirrorless camera. It rivaled the Olympus E-M1 with success, but when the Lumix GH4 became official, GX7’s popularity faded away and some people began treating it like a low-end camera, despite its rather impressive specs list.

At the end of 2014, an unnamed source suggested that the Japan-based company would replace the GX7 with the GX8, which would be advertised by Panasonic as an entry-level mirrorless camera. Its announcement event was expected to take place at CP+ 2015, but the manufacturer failed to meet the demands of its fans.

However, it appears that the device is coming soon, as a different source is now claiming that the Panasonic Lumix GX8 release date has been scheduled for May 2015.

The Panasonic Lumix GX7 mirrorless camera will be replaced by the Panasonic Lumix GX8 as of May 2015.

Panasonic Lumix GX8 release date rumored to occur sometime in May 2015

Panasonic introduced the Lumix GX7 during the third quarter of 2013, so a lot of people said that the spring of 2015 would be perfect for the company to launch a successor to this shooter.

Their expectations will be met in May 2015, says an unnamed insider. It is said that the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera will be released this May.

It is worth noting that these rumors are sometimes confusing, which means that it is possible that the company will only announce the camera in May and will release it at a later date.

Nevertheless, it is very likely that this gossip talk is accurate and that the Panasonic Lumix GX8 release date will take place in May.

GX7 successor will record 4K videos, just like the Panasonic GH4

When it becomes available, the Panasonic GX8 will become the company’s second mirrorless camera with a Micro Four Thirds sensor, designed for still photography, that records 4K videos.

The shooter is expected to retain a compact form factor, unlike the GH4, which looks more like a DSLR. Additionally, the camera will still come packed with WiFi, NFC, electronic viewfinder, and a touchscreen among others, just like its predecessor.

Anyway, this is still a rumor and you will have to stick around to see whether it will turn into a reality or not. Meanwhile, Amazon is selling the Lumix GX7 for about $550, while other stores have already discontinued the camera.
