Panasonic FZ1000 is rumored to be the name of the company’s upcoming compact camera that will feature a Four Thirds sensor which will be able to capture videos at 4K resolution.

After years of demands from its fans, Panasonic may have finally caved in and may be planning to announce a fixed-lens camera with a Four Thirds / Micro Four Thirds image sensor.

Such allegation has been heard from multiple sources and it seems like Photokina 2014 is the place where the fans’ dreams will come true. The name of the device has been leaked on the web along with another confirmation that the camera will be capable of recording 4K videos.

Without much further ado, it appears that the shooter will be called Panasonic LX1000!

Panasonic FZ1000 has been launched earlier this year with a 1-inch-type sensor and 4K video recording. On the other hand, Panasonic LX1000 could be unveiled soon with a Four Thirds sensor and 4K video recording.

Panasonic to announce LX1000 compact camera with Four Thirds sensor in the near future

A lot of time has passed since the first rumors have suggested that a Panasonic Four Thirds compact camera is on its way. Now, we finally have a name, which comes from a very trusted source.

The source is reporting that Panasonic LX1000 is the retail name chosen by the company for its upcoming shooter.

A more detailed specs list has not been provided for the time being. However, the Four Thirds camera will record 4K videos.

Is the Panasonic LX1000 the LX7 replacement aka the long-rumored LX8?

Its name is reminiscent of the FZ1000 bridge camera. Panasonic has launched this device earlier this summer with a 20.1-megapixel 1-inch-type image sensor and a 35mm equivalent lens of 24-400mm.

The superzoom shooter is also capable of capturing videos at 4K resolution. Nevertheless, these devices will complete each other, so we can expect the LX1000 to offer a different lens without such an extended zoom range.

Despite all that, it is impossible not to see the resemblance between the LX1000 and the current LX series of compacts. The LX7 should have been replaced by the LX8 earlier this summer, but this camera is rumored to feature a 1-inch-type sensor.

There has been some speculation to point out that Panasonic has delayed the LX8 in order to put a Four Thirds sensor inside it. As a result, the LX1000 and LX8 may be the same device, therefore you should not act surprised if this turns out to be true.

As stated above, the Japan-based company will hold a product launch event soon and will answer all our questions. Stay tuned for more details!
