The Pentax K-3 camera is rumored to be announced in late October with a 20-megapixel APS-C image sensor, instead of a 24MP full frame version, as previously rumored.

Earlier in 2013, photographer Mike Svitek had been claiming that he was testing a full frame DSLR camera from Pentax. The device was supposed to bear a “K-#” name and a full frame image sensor. Moreover, it should have been announced by now as the Pentax K-3 camera with a 24-megapixel FF sensor.

Nevertheless, the device is still not here and the company has not dropped any other hints regarding it. Thankfully, the rumor mill is back with new details, revealing that the K-3 is actually an APS-C camera, which will be introduced in October.

A new Pentax K-3 rumor is here and it says that the camera will feature an APS-C sensor, instead of a full frame one. Despite all that, it is unlikely that the DSLR will replace the K-5 II / K-5 IIs.

Pentax K-3 rumored to be a DSLR camera with a Sony-made 20-megapixel APS-C image sensor

The Pentax K-3 is once again a subject of the rumor mill. The main difference is that this time the K-3 is an APS-C camera with a 20-megapixel image sensor. The last time it was thought to be a full frame model with a 24-megapixel sensor.

In both cases, the similarity is given by the existence of a Sony-made sensor. It appears that Sony will lend its technology to Ricoh in order to add it into Pentax shooters, but an official confirmation is nowhere to be seen.

The image sensor will not sport an optical low-pass filter. As usual, this increases image quality, while also making photos more vulnerable to moiré patterns.

Ricoh to announce Pentax K-3 DSLR camera at the end of October

Sources are claiming that the new Pentax K-3 DSLR camera will feature a 100% viewfinder and that it will be announced in a black body in late October. Although the release date is unknown, the price for the body-only version will stand at around $1,200.

It is unlikely that the shooter will become official during PhotoPlus Expo 2013, which opens its doors on October 23 for the press, as Ricoh is not included on the list of exhibitors. Moreover, a DA 18-70mm f/2.8 lens will be revealed during the same event, which does not take place during PhotoPlus, as established above.

The camera and the lens are said to be present at the Salon de la Photo 2013 show, which takes place in Paris between November 7 and 11. We will find out if this rumor is true one month from now so stay tuned.
